Candiace Responds to “Discourse” Around Her Home Decor: “Everybody Needs to Calm Down”
“We’re going with the flow here,” RHOP’s Candiace Dillard Bassett said while defending her recent “decor journey.”
On August 29, Candiace Dillard Bassett shared a peek inside her Wegmans shopping cart as she loaded up on some fall decor. “I’m starting,” she declared in her Instagram Story caption. While The Real Housewives of Potomac cast member exclaimed she was “so excited” to start decorating for the new season, it seems some of her followers weren’t on the same page.
“So, there’s been a lot of discourse around my post about beginning my fall decor journey because it is almost fall in about two weeks,” Candiace said in a September 3 Instagram Story, noting that she had decorated her home the day before. “I started it a day late, OK? [Typically on] September 1, I’m off to the races. I started on September 2nd, so everybody needs to calm down.”

Showing her kitchen island, which is decorated with fall florals, wicker baskets, and a candle, Candiace explained, “I am starting my situation here. I’m trying something different. I’m not sure what’s going to happen.”
“I usually don’t put candles on my island,” she noted. “I don’t know why. I have them peppered throughout the house everywhere else, but not on my island. But I have this really nice candle [Spiced Leaves from Library of Notes]. It smells really good. It smells like fall. It’s light, but it gets the job done. It’s probably from HomeGoods because most of my candles are.”
Although Candiace is enthusiastic about her fall decor, she admitted that even she had a brief moment of hesitation. “I was, like, deciding that I think I wanted to put this [candle] on the island as part of the island decor. I said, ‘Oh, I’ll just set this here,’ and then I was like, ‘Oh, I want to light it.’ I was like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t light it because it’s not fall yet.’”
However, Candiace quickly dismissed that thought. “I said, ‘Self, since when do you conform to these rules and ideas and norms that society has deemed appropriate?’” she shared. “I literally said, ‘I could burn this right now and then decide tomorrow that I want to burn a summer candle,’ and that would be what? All right.”
“Burn whatever candles your pretty little heart desires,” she continued. “Tonight I’m burning Spiced Leaves. It’s giving what it needs to give. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Tomorrow, I may be in the mood for some lemon, OK? Or some springtime fun or whatever the candles are called. ’Cause I still have my spring candles out. They’re still out. But I’m in transition.”
In conclusion, she declared, “We’re going with the flow here, and I encourage you to do the same.”
