Candiace Dillard Bassett is finally a mom after giving birth to her son, Jett Maxwell Lee Bassett, on Oct. 3. But, post-labor wasn't so easy for The Real Housewives of Potomac alum, who was diagnosed with a blood clot after welcoming her son into the world last month.

The singer and new mom recounted her "horrifying" post-birth story to People in a new interview published on Nov. 13. Candiace explained that two days after giving birth, she was at a postnatal retreat with her husband, Chris Bassett, when she started experiencing some abdominal pain. Doctors were able to determine that Candiace had a blood clot in her left ovary, and prescribed her six weeks of blood thinners, administered through shots.

But, this journey to her diagnosis was not easy. Before getting diagnosed, Candiace explained that she "started having these horrifying lower abdominal pains. It was so bad I couldn't walk, I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything. And it just kept getting worse."

Candiace then started getting fevers, measuring up to 103.9 degrees Fahrenheit, rendering her helpless in bed. "I was burning up! And it went on for a week," she explained. "I just couldn't break it."

How is Candiace Dillard Bassett doing after her post-birth health scare?

Luckily, after about a week of medication, Candiace has started to feel a lot better. This is fantastic news, especially since she was "depressed" from being stuck in bed all day and felt she couldn't take care of her baby.

"My depression really lifted and it's been so much better now," she told the publication. "I'm actually able to take care of Jett; to hold him and care for him and breastfeed and actually be a mom. And I'm completely obsessed — like, it's everything I wanted it to be and more."

Candiace will have to go back to the doctor once her six weeks of medication is over to determine the status of the blod clot. Luckily, she has her husband, who has three kids from previous relationships, to stand by her side and help her. And he's already helped her so much. "If I didn't have a husband, me and my child would be dead because I could not do anything," she explained.
