Raquel Leviss Reveals How Her Sister Feels About Her Relationship with James Kennedy Today
The Vanderpump Rules relative didn't hold back her opinions of the newly-engaged couple on the show.
After James Kennedy popped the question to Raquel Leviss with an epically romantic Coachella-themed proposal, the Vanderpump Rules couple celebrated their engagement by bringing their families together for brunch in the October 19 episode.
It was during this happy occasion that we got to meet Raquel's sister, Kate, and her brother-in-law, Greg. Raquel opened up about her relationship with her sister in an interview during the episode.
"Kate and I weren't always close. You know, we didn't have a lot in common. I was adopted at birth. My biological mom, Susan, gave birth to Kate before me. And then Susan accidentally got pregnant again right around the time my aunt, Laura, was trying to conceive. Susan was generous enough to offer to have me for my aunt," Raquel explained. "But Kate has kind of stepped into my life a little bit more. She wants to be that big sister role to me."
James also noted in an interview during the episode that he has had some challenges with Raquel's family since the two started dating. "My family's been so open and love Raquel right off the bat," he said. "But for me, with Raquel's family, it was a bit more of a journey."
We saw that play out during the family brunch, which was also attended by James' mom, Jacqueline, and his younger brothers, Harry and Dylan. When the topic of James' gift to Max Todd came up during the meal (clip above), Kate wondered why Raquel was put in this position to help smooth things over amid the former friends' conflict this season. "I just don't want to see you in a situation where you have to fix his problems," Kate told Raquel.
Raquel shared her reaction to Kate's comments in an interview during the episode. "I never thought that I was trying to fix James' situation at all; I just figured I'm trying to help out my fiancé. But Kate hasn't always been supportive of James and my relationship because of James' drinking," Raquel said. "She is my big sister, and she's always gonna be protective of me."
Even though James has been sober for more than two years now, Kate still had some sisterly advice for the couple. "The main thing is just making sure you realize it affects both of you. It could affect her workplace situation, it can affect her relationships," Kate told James and Raquel in regards to the situation with Max's gift. "You know, you have to start thinking about the both of you as one unit. Because, unfortunately, there will be a time where somebody does not accept the gift."
When Raquel and James appeared on the October 19 Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show, they gave an update on how Kate feels about their relationship today. "She's good. It's a sisterly love, you know," Raquel shared in the below clip. "She just wants the best for me, and she wants to know that James is treating me right."
James also said that he has a lot of love for Kate, and he "100 percent" agreed with Raquel's sentiment. "And honestly, every single time I've seen Kate, she's always opened up with open arms, and, like, nothing but show me love," he said on the WWHL After Show. "And when stuff gets real, she speaks her mind and lets me know. And I respect her so much for that. She's a great older sister."
