Gizelle Bryant Admits Daughters Were “Confused” by Ex’s Engagement: “Want Him To…”
Gizelle also shared with Ashley and Karen if she'd ever consider marriage again in the future.
Although she was once his First Lady, Gizelle Bryant only wants “the best” for her ex-husband Jamal Bryant, after he announced his engagement to Dr. Karri Turner on May 26, 2024 in an Instagram post.
Gizelle talked about it over lunch with Ashley Darby and Karen Huger on Season 9, Episode 7 of The Real Housewives of Potomac. Karen was surprised to hear the news, since she didn’t know about his relationship.
“Well, I knew it was coming. I’m very happy for him,” Gizelle said. “I have been telling him for years, ‘You need to get married.’ Pastors and politicians need to be married. And I need for him to stay in good graces with the girls.”
How did Gizelle's daughters react to Jamal's engagement?
Gizelle detailed how Jamal shared the big update with their three daughters, Grace and twins Angel and Adore.
“Jamal took the girls to dinner, and he told them that he was going to be getting engaged,” she said.
But it wasn’t an entirely smooth conversation.
“You know, the girls were a little confused,” Gizelle added. “Because again, they didn’t know he had a girlfriend. He just went friend, fiancée. But you know, different strokes, different folks.”
Gizelle and Jamal’s long history has been detailed on The Real Housewives of Potomac over the years. They married in 2002, while Jamal was the pastor of a megachurch in Baltimore, but divorced in 2009 due to Jamal's infidelity. Despite that, the couple tried to rekindle their relationship in 2019, but ended things for a second time in 2021.
During BravoCon in 2023, she explained the reasoning.
"He and I have known each other for 20-plus years, we have three beautiful daughters. At the same time ... he was in a different mental space," she added. "So I felt like if ever were going to get the family back together, that was the time to try. It didn't work out. But I think I would have regretted not trying."
Although she said to The Daily Dish in October 2024 she would not be attending Jamal’s wedding, she maintains she wants him “to be happy.”
As far as Gizelle’s future, Karen believes it’s now her time to find a partner.
“I’m not looking for marriage,” Gizelle answered in Episode 7. “I want to have fun with somebody and rock out.”
