Brynn Whitfield Asks Ex Gideon to Have a Baby with Her — See His Surprising Answer
Brynn also revealed more about her ideal timeline for getting pregnant and having a child on The Real Housewives of New York City.
Perhaps third time really is the charm! Brynn Whitfield has been engaged three times, but even though she returned ex Gideon Lang-Laddie’s ring, she’s ready to take a new step with him: co-parenting.
“I know I’m going to be a mom,” she confessed to Jessel Taank over lunch on The Real Housewives of New York City. “I don’t know about how many. But I know there’s definitely one.”
When Gideon visited during Season 15, Episode 8, Brynn told Jessel about her plan to ask him to create embryos with her.
“Gideon and I are going to test drive a two-year-old to see if we can be co-parents of an embryo,” she explained.
Brynn Whitfield Talks Pregnancy Journey
Earlier in 2024, Brynn went through the process of freezing her eggs, and was open about the experience with her fellow ‘Wives.
“I’m 38, but I know I’m going to be a mom,” she shared with Jessel. “I’ve gone through nine days of egg freezing. I’m f-cking injecting myself. I’m a bloated f-cking blubber walking around. I got crazy.”
She called herself “very lucky” when doctors were able to retrieve 15 of her eggs. But she still has fears.
“When I froze my eggs, I felt a massive sigh of relief. Like, ‘Oh hey, yay, I got 15 eggs!’ But then of course, it’s like, ‘Well, you know, you don’t know anything about them, or if they’re healthy,'” Brynn said in her confessional. “So yes, it’s great to have them. I know I’m lucky. But it doesn’t mean I get to have a baby. It doesn’t mean that they’re viable. Viability can’t be tested until something is an embryo.”
That’s where Brynn hoped Gideon would come in.
“Co-parenting a child is way more important to me than a f-cking marriage,” she told Jessel. “I wanted to do it together like everybody else. It hasn’t worked out for me. I think actually when I give him a kid — I give him a little Brynn — he’s going to be very happy.”
Will Gideon have a baby with Brynn?
Brynn admitted she had no idea how Gideon would react to her proposal.
“He likes his life. He’s very comfortable. He’s never been like, gung ho on the kid thing,” she said.
But, she got up her courage and asked him when he arrived at her new Gramercy Park apartment.
“So, you know how I have those eggs? Well, I was thinking — crazy idea — what if we took some of those eggs out of the freezer and then made an embryo with your sperm?” she asked.
As she laughed, she clarified, “I’m serious about this.”
Gideon took a moment to answer, saying, “I wasn’t expecting to have this conversation.” But then he added, “I love the idea. Hand on heart, love the idea. I think you would make an incredible mother. I’ve always thought that. I’d love to be a father. Obviously, it begs the question of co-parenting.”
“Rule number one, I’m the boss,” Brynn announced, as well as, “Rule number two: never forget rule number one.”
Gideon also asked what percentage of their child would be Brynn.
“Like 98 percent me, 2 percent you. I just want the accent and the hair,” she joked.
Are Brynn and Gideon dating now?
Born and raised in London, Gideon Lang-Laddie is Brynn’s third ex-fiancé. The two were a couple for five years after meeting on the Tinder dating app. He appeared in Season 14 of RHONY to go shopping for a classic car with Brynn.
“He’s literally a Prince Charming,” Brynn said in the episode. “I didn’t open a door for five years. I didn’t pick up one tab. I can’t even stand up at a dinner table without him jumping up.”
She even shared his romantic proposal that included The Ritz-Carlton at sunset with The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)" playing. But Brynn ended up calling off the engagement.
“I see myself as little Brynn with the little afro, like, I didn’t see myself as someone’s wife,” she said in Season 14. “I wasn’t ready.”
But the RHONY ladies always disagreed with Brynn’s decision, with Ubah Hassan commenting on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in September 2023, “If she’s smart, she will get with that man.”
So what’s changed for Brynn since her broken engagement?
“I was very much raised: I meet someone, fall in love, we get married, couple years we have kids, etc.,” she said in her confessional. “And now I’m 38 and that’s not that linear anymore for me. So, I have a decision. Instead of choosing romance for myself I can choose a good father for my future children. And I think that Gideon’s just a really, really good man. Period.”
As far as when we could see a mini-Brynn running around, Brynn said she wants to have a child by the time she’s 40 — so she’d like to be pregnant in early 2025. But, Brynn and Gideon still have a few details to work out.
“There’s so much to figure out,” she said. “Like where to live. Because I’m fine with co-parenting with someone who’s not my husband, but I don’t want to co-parent across the country, let alone across the world. Gideon splits his time between Los Angeles and London.”
Still, Brynn remains positive about her parenting future.
“This to me was a huge step. I had to muster all of my courage in order to ask him. And now I think we need to take the next step,” she said in her confessional.
