Gretchen Rossi “Struggling” with New Motherhood: “Sadly I Really Wasn’t Connecting with Her”
The Real Housewives of Orange County alum shares her experience with postpartum depression.
Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley welcomed their first child, Skylar Gray, on July 10 after a long battle with infertility. She described the experience as the "most amazing [and] emotional day of my life," but as The Real Housewives of Orange County alum now knows, sometimes real life is a little complicated.
Gretchen appeared on The Doctors on September 26 to open up about her struggle with postpartum depression. “I really went through a difficult period," she revealed. "I realize now I was depressed and I had a lot of anxiety, and sadly I really wasn’t connecting with her at the very beginning.”
Despite her symptoms, she found it difficult to believe she was suffering from postpartum depression. Even when a doctor suggested it, Gretchen said, “I was just like, no, not me. I don’t have that, I’m happy.”
She explained, “I was really struggling, and I was having an internal conflict with the fact that I have this beautiful amazing miracle baby…and I just was having a hard time compartmentalizing my life now with this new baby.”
