Britney Spears Details How Her Father "Almost Died" and How She's Now Put Her Career on Hold Indefinitely
The pop star reveals her father's life-threatening incident and its impact on her life.
Britney Spears has decided to put her family before work after her father, Jamie Spears, recently suffered from a ruptured colon, she confirmed in a statement via PEOPLE. He is expected to recover from the incident, but during his recovery, Britney decided to go on an "indefinite work hiatus" and that means that her upcoming Las Vegas residency, Domination, has been put on hold.
“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family," she said in a statement. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”
Jamie experienced his health scare two months ago, per a press release, and was rushed to the hospital and went into surgery. He later spent 28 days in the hospital. Per Refinery 29, the residency was slated to take place at the Park Theater in The Park MGM Grand Resort & Casino beginning on February 13, with 32 dates running through August.
Britney noted on Twitter: "It’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him... I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand... I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always."
