Dyson Just Launched a New Cordless Vacuum & Here’s Why You Need It
The must-have home cleaning tool, a cordless vacuum, just got even smarter.
Before becoming a mom, I never really knew what a messy house was. At the time, I thought “messy” was clothes strewn about, makeup out on a bathroom counter, cups stacked in the kitchen sink. And then I started having babies. And as every parent knows, babies turn into toddlers who turn into kids who turn into teenagers, and at every stage, these humans are obliviously filthy.
Yes, my house still has clothes, cups, and makeup everywhere, but now I’m adding a new mess to that mix, and it’s all on the floor. Currently I live with one toddler and three kids, and my floors are perpetually covered in a mix of crushed-up Cheerios, mud, glitter, sand, and debris.
Find yourself in a similar state of living? Trust me when I say the Dyson cordless vacuum is your best form of defense. As a shopping editor, I’ve tested a slew of vacuums, and none of them compare to the Dyson. And lucky for us consumers, Dyson just launched a shiny new version that is a great update to an already-great product.
Dubbed the V11 Torque Drive, this vacuum, like its predecessors, is cord-free and comes with a wall-mounted charging station (which my husband installed in under 10 minutes) and a bunch of super-handy cleaning tools that I already know and love from my V10.
There are, however, two major developments that set Torque apart from its Dyson relatives. First, you only need to use one cleaner head for floors and rugs. That’s right, this new version automatically adapts to the flooring, amping up its suction power as it switches from hardwood or tile to carpeting. For me, this makes life easier and results in less time spent vacuuming because I’m no longer taking a minute to switch cleaner heads as I shuffle through my home’s different rooms.
Torque’s second major innovation is a new LCD smart screen on top of the vacuum’s handle that allows the user to pick a cleaning mode — options include “auto,” “boost,” and “eco.” Once chosen, the screen then gives you the remaining run time. So now, you'll have visual clarity of not only the mode you're in, but also how much battery is left.
And that’s not all the new smart screen delivers! It will also alert you when you need to clean your filter or if there is a blockage, and then it will give you step-by-step instructions on how to fix it. Read: It’s a real-time help manual that means you don’t have to call Dyson’s 1-800 number if something goes wrong!
More to know: Torque’s got a bigger and stronger battery than previous iterations, and its motor is the most powerful ever, delivering 20 percent more suction than the Dyson Cyclone V10. Oh, and the canister is bigger this time around, so it can hold more of my kids’ ground-up snacks.
And speaking of snacks, the new cleaner also has a movable feature in the front dubbed the “debris slider” that creates a gap for slightly bigger items… like Cheerios! Sounds to me like a parent is on the Dyson design team!
