Alex McCord Welcomes a “Magic” New Family Member (PICS)
The Real Housewives of New York City alum has welcomed a special someone into her home, and he’s “settling in nicely.”
Life just got a little more magical for Alex McCord. The Real Housewives of New York City alum, who moved from Brooklyn to Australia in 2014, has welcomed a new family member into her home. In a recent Instagram post, she proved just how well that family member is settling in.

In a July 30 Instagram share, the mother of two made a big announcement. “We’ve adopted a small panther,” she wrote about the black cat. “He is 6 years old and came to live with us a month ago. His name is Magic, and he is settling in nicely — even deigning to pose with me in a matching sweater.”
OK, so Magic isn’t really a panther. But as Alex’s photos prove, the black cat does have a certain jungle-animal look to him. He’s got glowing green eyes, a shiny jet-black coat, and rather large kitty paws. Unlike a panther, however, Magic seems to enjoy cuddling with humans.
In a carousel of photos, Alex showed the magical feline snuggling with her husband, Simon van Kempen. Other photos show Magic resting on the couch and playing. There’s also evidence of the matching-sweater moment Alex referred to in her caption.
One photo shows the psychologist wearing a Halloween-ready sweater decked with black cats with wide, eerily yellow eyes. Magic gamely posed with the former Real Housewife as she smiled for a snap in the catty look.
Indeed, it seems the “small panther” has taken quite well to his new home.

Alex’s other family members are doing well too. Her marriage with Simon is still going strong — the couple has been together for 23 years! In 2020, the lovebirds celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with sweet public-facing love notes.
“Celebrating 20 and looking ahead to the next 30! Happy 20th anniversary to my best friend,” Alex wrote in a 2020 Instagram post.
Simon also reflected on his marriage with Alex, writing on Instagram: “Twenty years ago today I married the most amazing woman I have ever met. We’ve lived an interesting life (to say the least) but through it all our mutual love has never wavered. I might be 56 but I am greedy and want at least another thirty more! Alex I love you so much.”

Meanwhile, Alex and Simon’s sons, Francois and Johan, are hardly the little boys they were when they appeared in the early seasons of RHONY! Francois celebrated his 19th birthday last October, and Johan turned 17 the following month.
Alex has documented several of the milestones her sons have achieved over the years. For example, she shared the news of Francois joining the New South Wales Regional Youth Taskforce in 2021.
