The Name of Mercedes "MJ" Javid's Baby Boy Is a Touching Tribute to Her Late Father
The Shahs of Sunset newborn's name also honors father Tommy Feight's family.
Mercedes "MJ" Javid said goodbye to her father, Shams Javid, last spring, but his memory will always live on through her newborn son.
The new Shahs of Sunset mom paid the sweetest tribute to her late dad by naming her newborn son in his honor. MJ and her husband, Tommy Feight, welcomed their first child, son Shams Francis Feight, on April 17. Their son's middle name, Francis, is also a tribute to Tommy's late mother.
MJ's rep told E! News that she "feels eternally grateful and blessed" following the birth of her son, who was born weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces in Los Angeles. "The healthy baby boy is happy and doing great, and the family can't wait to bring him home," her rep added.
The past 12 months have been full of ups and downs for MJ. In 2018, she married Tommy and became pregnant with her first child after undergoing IVF. However, she also lost her father in the spring after his health was in decline following a stroke.
MJ opened up about what it was like dealing with her father's passing and having her dream of becoming a mom come true all in the same year during an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month. “I had this strong faith that if God was going to take my father away, he was going to give me a baby,” she shared.
MJ's father will now always live on through her son, not only in his name but also in the man he grows up to be.
“My father taught me and treated me and spoke to me like an equal as far back as I can remember,” MJ told PEOPLE. “He was always trusting, positive, encouraging and gave me a sky-is-the-limit outlook … I want to raise my child in similar ways [that] my father did. Just being really calm and giving me independence. I think the tools I was given by him are some of the best things.”
