Luann de Lesseps Has the Most Countess Response to Barbara Kavovit's Shade About Her Singing
"I don't claim to be Adele," The Real Housewives of New York City cabaret singer said.
Barbara Kavovit was the only one out of the Big Apple bunch to attend Luann de Lesseps' holiday cabaret show in The Real Housewives of New York City Season 11 finale. However, Barbara didn't exactly bring good tidings when it came to her review of Luann's singing voice.
Barbara was caught throwing a little bit of shade at Luann's singing chops right before the countess took the stage. "I don't think she can really ever hold the show by herself," she was overheard telling a friend while sitting in the audience. "I mean, she can't really sing."
Given Barbara's support of her cabaret up to that point, Luann was understandably surprised when she watched that moment on TV. "Well, you know, I was really stunned," she said during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Thursday night (clip above). "She's made some comments on social media also that she didn't mean, because Barbara's actually been to eight of my shows. She loves my show. I don't know. She says it got taken out of context. I don't know how that could have been taken out of context."
But it does appear that Barbara will double down on her comments at the RHONY Season 11 reunion. The trailer for the sit-down shows Barbara remarking, "I mean, you're not Adele, Luann."
And Luann agreed with that statement on WWHL. "Exactly. And I don't claim to be Adele," she said. "But I am an entertainer, I love to sing for my friends, I love to host, and I love to tell jokes. And I read from my diaries, and it's all part of being in my living room. That's what my cabaret show is. It's all about entertaining and hosting my guests, and it's a lot of fun and sexy and entertaining."
No matter what anyone has to say about Luann's singing, no one can deny her cabaret's success. "And I will say, it is a smash hit, for real," Andy Cohen told Luann on WWHL. "It is a very big hit."
Plus, with Billy Stritch, who has worked with Liza Minnelli for a quarter of a decade, serving as Luann's music director for her shows, the countess knows she's doing all right. "If Billy says I can sing, that's all I need to know," Luann quipped.
Luann returned to the recording studio earlier this year, releasing her latest single, "Feelin' Jovani," in June. Watch her dazzling performance in honor of WWHL's 10th anniversary, below.
