Kate Chastain’s 10-month-old son just celebrated his very first Easter. And, boy, was it one to remember.
The Below Deck alum documented the holiday with a sweet photo of Sullivan Cay inside their Florida bungalow. The March 31 post showed the little one sitting beside a plush gray bunny rabbit while rocking a yellow Polo shortall with an all-over pony print, white high socks, a swooping mohawk, and an infectious smile.
Although the moment was undeniably precious, Kate admitted it wasn’t easy to capture. Just minutes after posting the photo, the former chief stew shared an honest behind-the-scenes look at the chaotic moments leading up to the final shot.

Kate Chastain highlights the struggles of taking baby photos
“The only way I could get him to hold still and smile next to the bunny is to let him hold the remote,” she captioned the Instagram Story, explaining why a carrot emoji was placed over Sullivan Cay’s hands.
The Florida native then posted a short video of her baby boy crying and screaming while she attempted to take his Easter photo. A fussy Sullivan Cay kicked his legs and crawled across the living room floor as Kate calmly asked, “What’s the matter?”
“There were many attempts,” she captioned the clip.
Kate Chastain confirms she's raising her baby "solo"
Kate shared the family update as Sullivan Cay approaches his first birthday. The first-time mom welcomed her son on May 5, 2023, just five months after she announced her pregnancy via Instagram. Kate spoke about her entry into motherhood during the March 27, 2023, episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, confirming she would be raising the child “solo.”
“I feel so lucky. It’s been the easiest pregnancy ever. Well, my only. But yeah, very easy,” she said at the time. “It’s something I’ve always hoped for so this is truly a dream come true!… I’m doing it solo and perhaps with some help, but I’m happy to do it alone.”
Kate Chastain admits motherhood was harder than expected
She expanded on her experience during a February interview with TODAY, admitting that raising a baby was much harder but more fulfilling than she anticipated.
“Sullivan is so cute. So cute. And so much work,” she told the outlet. “Way more work than I expected but I just love him so much, so it’s fine. I really thought over the years ‘I can do motherhood. I did yachting.’ It’s so much more work than I expected. But it’s also so much more love than I expected.”
