Heather Dubrow Shares Health Update After "Scary" Mammogram: "This Was a Shift..."
RHOC's Heather Dubrow revealed how she's doing today after learning that her chance of developing breast cancer is higher than average.
When several Real Housewives of Orange County ladies headed to the doctor for mammograms on Season 18, Episode 14 (which aired Oct 10), Heather Dubrow got the unfortunate news that her risk factor for developing breast cancer is "pretty high." Now, she's reflecting on the revelation as well as providing an update on her health as it stands today.
"My risk factor shot up hugely, which is terrifying," Heather explained in a recent interview at Bravo HQ. "Literally, the radiologist said to me, 'Listen, if we find it, we'll catch it early.' And it's like, you don't want to hear that. You don't want to hear anything like that."
Heather went on to explain that she was particularly taken aback at the appointment because "I go there every year, Terry [Dubrow]'s on staff at that hospital, and so usually [the radiologist] comes out and she's like, 'Hey, it's great! See you next year.' And this was a shift, and scary since two family members just had it."
It's been several months since the mammogram, so Heather went on to share how she's doing now.
"As I sit currently, I'm a healthy person," Heather said. "But it's concerning to figure out what kind of tests I should be doing to make sure I stay that way."
Why was Heather Dubrow upset with her castmates after their mammograms?
Fans may recall that Heather became upset when Jennifer Pedranti, Gina Kirschenheiter, and Shannon Storms Beador apparently didn't ask her about her mammogram results. As she put it in a confessional on RHOC, "The whole reason that I wanted to take these girls to get mammograms was that I was worried about them. So does it hurt my feelings that no one is worried about me? Yeah, it's upsetting."
During her interview at Bravo HQ, Heather shed new light on her reaction.
"I think I was so shocked by that news, it was sad to me that the girls didn't just ask. We were sitting in the room and they literally, the three of them, they went, 'Are you OK? Are you OK? Are you OK?' and no one turned to me," Heather recalled. "And I just thought, 'That is so sh-tty.' Like why wouldn't anyone just ask?"
Fast-forward to the conversation about Heather's feelings in London. "My god, they just turned on me. At some point it would be nice if I said something and one of the girls just went, 'Wow, yeah, should've asked. That's so sh-tty,'" Heather said. "It was overlooked in the moment, but when someone points it out to you, just say something.
