Guerdy Abraira Opens Up About the Emotional Decision to Shave Her Head Amid Her Cancer Battle

In May 2023, Guerdy Abraira took to Instagram to reveal she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The event planner has shared details about her health journey on Season 6 of The Real Housewives of Miami, showing incredible moments of strength and vulnerability.
One such moment occurred on Season 6, Episode 17, which aired on February 21, as Guerdy enlisted her husband, Russell Abraira, to help her shave her hair off in anticipation of the side effects of chemotherapy. Keep scrolling to get all the details from the episode.
Guerdy Abraira shares why she shaved her head amid cancer battle
In the episode, Guerdy shared with her husband, Russell, and her makeup artist, Darline, that she didn't want to go completely bald "yet," noting she would cut her braids off and then leave "a little tiny bit of hair."
"I've had no control throughout this entire cancer journey and with chemo[therapy], hair loss is one of the main side effects," Guerdy shared in an interview confessional. "If that's the only thing I can control, I will, because that hair is gonna fall off on my terms."

As Russell was setting Guerdy up, she was holding back tears. She went on to thank her husband for his support throughout the process. "I don't know what I would have done without you," she told him, "You're my best friend."
"Russell is my safe space, Russell is my haven, Russell is the zone of me being at peace," she shared in an interview. "I appreciate that and I nurture it every single day."
While Russell helped Guerdy with cutting off her braids and shaving her head, she leaned on him for support as she tried to contain her tears.
"You're gonna look good," Russell said as Guerdy responded, "You're lying to me!"
Ever the supportive husband, Russell reassured her: "You're very beautiful. It doesn't look bad at all. Trust me. You look good!"
Guerdy Abraira opens up about her life since her cancer diagnosis
Though she may have had a difficult journey, Guerdy shared some amazing news at BravoCon 2023 back in November.
During the RHOM panel, "Bringing the Miami Heat to Vegas," panel moderator Danny Pellegrino asked Guerdy to update fans on her health journey.
"I'm cancer-free, officially!" the Miami mom triumphantly revealed.
She went on to share more exciting news. "I'm about to ring the radiation bell on Wednesday, so that's exciting as well," she shared at the time of the event last year. "I'm very excited, and I'm so blessed, and I literally wake up every morning counting my blessings and making it count." She added: "Remember that. Make it count!"
