Fredrik Eklund Says Fatherhood "Still Is the Biggest Priority" of His Life
The #MDLNY agent gives an update on his journey toward parenthood.
Last season of Million Dollar Listing New York got off to an emotional start as Fredrik Eklund revealed that the surrogate carrying his and his husband Derek Kaplan's twins experienced a miscarriage (clip above). Though the couple suffered another setback when their surrogate failed to get pregnant again later on, Fredrik was hopeful that he and Derek would one day fill their new Connecticut mansion with children by season's end.
Fredrik gave an update on his baby plans when The Daily Dish caught up with him earlier this month. "It’s still unfolding," he revealed. "We’re trying again, and that’s all that I can say."
The MDLNY agent didn't want to share too much about the status of his journey to fatherhood because he said he wants fans to wait and see. "I’m an open book as a person and I’m very honest and transparent in that way because it’s an act of love to tell people how I feel. I think this time around during this journey, I need to be a little bit more patient with my words," he explained. "It still is the biggest priority of my life, the biggest priority of my adult life."
Fredrik previously opened up to The Daily Dish about why he found it so important to share his struggle to start a family with MDLNY viewers last season. "It's one of those topics I think that no one ever talks about. I didn't know that 'cause I had no knowledge of IVF or surrogacy or miscarriages or any of that," he said. "Maybe because we're two guys, but since all of this happened I realized it's a subject that a lot of people go through and for some reason [keep quiet about]. I think it's because when it happens to you, you feel flawed or broken. I can only imagine if you're a woman and that happens to you in a relationship it's even worse, because this wasn't my body and still yet I'm so sad and upset."
