Fredrik Eklund is keeping the romance alive.
In celebration of his and Derek Kaplan’s 15th anniversary, the Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles and Million Dollar Listing New York alum surprised his hubby with a lavish European getaway. Fredrik reflected on the trip in a June 21 Instagram video that he shot and narrated. The post documented all the highlights, including the couple’s luxe hotel accommodations, their intimate dinners, and a major “first” for Derek.
“You know, I’m surprising my hubby with something special as we’re celebrating 15 years together this summer,” Fredrik said in the video, before referencing his and Derek’s young kids, Milla and Freddy Jr. “You know, we have these two beautiful children; that’s enough to celebrate, but I digress. We flew first class to Paris, something that Derek’s never done before and we checked in at the new Cheval Blanc hotel and got this crazy suite overlooking the river.”

Once midnight rolled around, Fredrik and Derek went to the Luminiscence Light Show in “a 600-year-old church,” which Fredrik admits made him “emotional.”
Fredrik Eklund & Derek Kaplan celebrate 15 years on the Orient Express
The two kicked off the following morning with a Parisian waffle breakfast before boarding the famed Orient Express.
“Ever since I was a kid I wanted to travel on this train,” Fredik revealed. “We were lucky to get the Grand Suite and the actual Budapest car from 1923, which was the very car that was stuck in the snow for 10 days with Agatha Christie in it. And that inspired her to write the book, Murder on the Orient Express, which later, of course, became the movies we all know.”
While on the train, Fredrik and Derek ate, danced, slept, and “just stayed close together as the green landscape flashed by.” The two eventually stopped in Portofino, Italy, where they checked in to the luxurious Belmond Hotel, The Splendido.
“We missed the kids so much but it was actually, to be honest with you, great just to be the two of us for a few days,” Fredrik said toward the end of the video. “[We got to] dress up and go back in time and revisit history before heading home to Miami.”
Fredrik Eklund reflects on his family's new life in Miami
The anniversary trip came after a busy year for Fredrik, Derek, and their two kids. The family moved from California to Florida in the summer of 2023, and have spent the past year settling into their new home and building a new life. Fredrik reflected on the chapter in an August 2023 Instagram, admitting the move had been somewhat of a challenge.
“To be honest with you our very first week in Miami has been overwhelming,” he began the post, which included photos of his kids enjoying their new home. “Moving across the country is a lot. Derek has been back in LA overseeing the furniture move to our house in Connecticut, and I foolishly thought I could do the first week here and the kids new school alone without a nanny.”
He continued: “Miami in general like us… all in all such an exciting new chapter. What do they say again… the days are long but the years are short or something? Well this week happened in a split of a second, let’s hope I can take a breath or two next week.”
