Below Deck Sailing Yacht Producers Give an Update on Charter Guest Kerry McReynolds' Cancer Battle
The primary inspired the Parsifal III crew and fans alike this season.
One of the most memorable charter guests of this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht has without a doubt been Kerry McReynolds. Kerry didn't leave such a big impression on the Parsifal III crew and fans alike by making outrageous requests or partying hard on the boat; she was unforgettable by being an inspiration to us all.
Kerry, a retail sales manager, chartered the yacht with her closest friends "to honor and celebrate her life and legacy" as she battled stage 4 cancer, Captain Glenn Shephard shared during the preference sheet meeting prior to the start of the charter.
Jenna MacGillivray immediately felt a special connection to Kerry because her father had also battled cancer before his passing. "Considering Kerry's health condition, her attitude is so positive. That takes so much strength," Jenna said during the episode after the charter guests climbed aboard the yacht. "I've had personal experience with my dad dying of cancer, and I will bust my ass to make sure this is the best trip of her life."
You wouldn't have known Kerry was going through something so difficult with her ever-present positive attitude during the charter. She also made sure to experience the trip to the fullest, whether it was having fun on the hot dog float in the water or watching the crew's pajama fashion show during dinner.
Kerry definitely left an impact on all of the crew members that will last long after this season. "Life's not fair. You can be as rich as you want to be, you can be as famous as you want to be, but you might not be here soon. It should teach us to live every moment like it's our last breath," Paget Berry said of what he learned from Kerry's charter. "It strikes a chord for me for sure. We have no excuse to not be grateful."
Below Deck Sailing Yacht producers shared an update on how Kerry is doing during an enhanced version of the May 11 episode that aired on May 18. The producers said that Kerry is "still hanging in there," as of the episode premiere. “But it’s hard going through cancer treatments and abiding by the extra precautions needed during the pandemic," producers noted.
This group of charter guests was “super down-to-earth and appreciative," according to producers. “They loved to make jokes and were truly funny," they said.
The producers also admitted that they teared up as the charter guests disembarked the yacht.
