The “Worst Thing” Craig Conover Did Drunk Caused $70K of Damage at Patricia’s House
Patricia Altschul had a surprising reaction after Craig was responsible for more than a little harm at her iconic home.
On the September 8 episode of Southern Charm, Patricia Altschul and Whitney Sudler-Smith invited Craig Conover, Austen Kroll, and Shep Rose over for an intimate, elegant dinner party. However, like many of Patricia’s gatherings, things took an unexpected turn before the group even sat down for their meal.
Prior to dinner, everyone enjoyed several drinks in Patricia’s “double drawing room” (see it in the video above). After starting with bourbon, Craig made the switch to red wine — and quickly proceeded to spill it on Patricia’s very expensive sofa. “Craig, do you know how much that sofa cost?” Patricia asked before revealing, “Forty-five thousand dollars.”
While Shep quipped, “That’s just a day at Sewing Down South,” Austen corrected Craig’s method for cleaning the spill. “You don’t wipe,” he said. “You blot.”
After Whitney realized the wine “hit the rug too,” Craig tried to blame the incident on the shape of his wineglass. However, Whitney retorted, “Why don’t you coordinate the cup with your mouth?”
Austen declared the sofa was “f--ked,” but Patricia seemed less concerned. As it turns out, Kathryn Dennis also once accidentally stained it with her spray tan, but the sofa was able to be cleaned. “It took us an hour and a half to get the spray tan off,” Patricia shared. “But we got it off.”
Still, Craig was mortified. “This might be the worst thing that I’ve ever done drunk,” he declared in an interview. “And that’s saying something.” After apologizing and promising Patricia, “I will take care of it tomorrow,” she replied, “OK, that’s good enough for me.”
Well, Craig’s damage didn’t end there. As they took their seats for dinner, Patricia warned the group, “Don’t lean back in those chairs, please. They’re 18th century, and I haven’t had them re-glued yet.” But within minutes, Craig admitted, “I accidentally broke the chair that I’m sitting on.”
As we know, Patricia’s furniture doesn’t come with a low price tag. To Craig’s horror, she shared, “I just paid $25,000 for these chairs.”
Luckily, everyone had a good sense of humor about the mishaps. As Shep summed it up: “Couch: 45 grand. Chair: 25 grand. Craig drunk and ruining everything: priceless.”
