Heather Dubrow Reveals Why She No Longer Decorates for Halloween
The RHOC mom also shared some tips on how to prepare one's home for the holiday season.
When it came to Halloween celebrations, Heather Dubrow always did it big.
Once October rolled around and the temperatures began to drop, The Real Housewives of Orange County mom would transform her abode into a spooky season wonderland, complete with festive treats, like spider cookies, candy corn drinks, and edible slime, as well as incredible decorations, like a mountain of Jack-o’-lanterns in her foyer and “Halloween trees” displayed throughout her mansion.
Over the past couple of years, however, Heather has drastically scaled back on the spooky designs and began consolidating her decorations for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas. She touched on the shift in a 2019 home tour video, which showcased her Nightmare Before Christmas-inspired decor.
“Every year, we decorate for Halloween — really cool and elaborate decorations. And guess what? No one comes. No one knocks, we don’t give out candy, there’s no one on our street,” she said. “It is very depressing and also seems like a waste to have all these incredible decorations, and we’ve also never gotten together to have a Halloween party. So what I decided to do this year was to mash all the holidays together… put Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas all together in one fell swoop.”
Heather Dubrow now begins her decorating process in November
Since then, the OC mom has completely ditched Halloween decorations in the interest of saving time and energy. She explained her decision in her recent newsletter, aptly titled “Let’s Talk About… DECORATING!!!"
“I love the holidays, but since my kids are older — I have stopped with fall / Halloween (don’t judge me !!!) and I go straight for Channukah and Christmas season!!!” she said.
Heather and her husband, Dr. Terry Dubrow, recently moved out of their OC home and into a jaw-dropping Beverly Hills mansion. Although the couple’s oldest children — 19-year-old twins Max and Nick — are away at college, Heather and Terry still reside with their 16-year-old daughter, Kat Dubrow, and 12-year-old son, Ace Dubrow.
“My decor will be up the week before Thanksgiving," she continued, "so when the twins come home from college it’s ready!"
Heather Dubrow offers holiday decoration advice
While the Christmas season is still months away, Heather encouraged others to be proactive when it came to the decorating process.
"Make sure to plan a day to get your tree & decorate it! Decorating for the holidays should be part of the FUN of the season,” the OC ’Wife continued. “So make sure you leave lots of time so you don’t feel rushed. Now is a good time to hire someone to do your outdoor lights .. during the pandemic we kept ours up for a couple of years ! I loved it so much ! Nothing like tree jewelry!!!”
