Anyone who’s ever watched previous seasons of The Real Housewives of Orange County knows that cast OG Vicki Gunvalson loves her daughter Briana, her grandsons Troy and Owen, and her son-in-law Ryan Culberson, to the point where she helped them buy a home in California so that her family could be near back in 2015.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Orange County on Thursdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

After a couple of short years, however, Briana and Ryan decided to relocate to North Carolina, where Ryan’s family is from. What was the catalyst behind the move? According to an ask-me-anything type of Q&A on Ryan’s Instagram recently, it was all about stress management.

When asked what he likes most about living in NC, Ryan replied, “No stress!!! Or pressure to keep up with the ‘Jones.’” And when another of his followers asked if his family missed California at all, Ryan explained, “There’s nothing we don’t have here that we’re missing out on in CA. The move has been the biggest stress relief for both of us!”

And it shows! Since relocating the couple has started living a healthier lifestyle — with some help from the Keto diet — and have lost more than 100 pounds combined. This news will come as no surprise to Vicki. "Even her posts and even her demeanor — she's just happy,” she told The Daily Dish during season 13 of RHOC. “And the life I wanted her to live in Orange County, Calif. was not what she wanted. She wants rural. She wants to go to the corner and get her strawberries and her sweet corn, her bacon from the pig farm. It's crazy, but that's what she does. She's very organic and very clean eating. No processed foods anymore.”

Vicki has also come to terms with the fact that her daughter is no longer meant for her hometown. "I think that the Orange County life — the busy, keep up with the Joneses, the blond hair and the tall shoes and the big boobs [life] — she's not that girl. She's my country bumpkin, living life large girl. They're two hours away from the coast and she's an hour away from the mountains, so she gets a little bit of Orange County lifestyle, just in a different environment.”

It sounds to us like the Culbersons have the right idea in North Carolina — they’re getting the same perks as California (Ocean! Mountains! Weather!), minus the cost of living and competitive stress. Now we just need to see if grandma Vicki is going to be buying a second home in the state any time soon!

To catch up on Vicki’s journey, tune into RHOC on Tuesdays at 9/8c.
