This Central Space in Dubrow Chateau Is Simply Stunning
The Real Housewives of Orange County alum is revealing what it took to create her illuminated floating staircase.
Prayers: Answered! The Dubrow Chateau tour has continued on Heather Dubrow’s YouTube channel, and most recently she opened the home’s doors to give an in-depth look at her stunning central staircase. Unlike her last home, which had a humongous entryway with two staircases, The Real Housewives of Orange County alum went in a different direction (literally) this time around. “Instead of eating all that space with the two staircases, we did a smaller entryway with this grand, grand, cool hallway,” Heather explained. And off that enormous hallway is the prettiest staircase we’ve ever seen.
Comprised of uplit floating stairs, a multi-story textured stone wall, and geometric banisters, the space is stunning… but what really takes the cake is the custom light installation that was inspired by the hanging butterflies at Heather’s local Neiman Marcus. Made up of dozens of crystal lights hanging at varying lengths, the installation is delicate and dominating all at once… and you have to click on the above video to hear just how difficult it was to make work!
We’ve broken down this latest tour below, highlighting Heather's most interesting and best design choices. Take a look at the stunning images followed by her quotes explaining the backstory to each. And to learn more secrets about Dubrow Chateau, check out the video at the top of the page!
Those Floating Stairs
“This is what we’re gonna call the front staircase,” said Heather. “Lot of amazing features, floating stairs with lights underneath.”
A Textured Backdrop
“This wall was Robert St. John’s idea. I wasn’t sure what to do with the wall and he thought that this textured stone element would be amazing, and I have to say that I wasn’t 100 percent sure until it went up. And then I was blown away.”
Heather’s Banister Design
"The banister I actually drew out on a cocktail napking one day! I like squares, I like repeating patterns, I like angles, and so I loved this when I drew it out.”
The Light Installation
“One of my favorite features of this whole area is this lighting feature that I designed. I’ve always loved at Neiman Marcus when you go up the escalator they have all these hanging butterflies. So I wanted to create some sort of sculptural light installation that would mimic that.”
The Rear Staircase
“This is basically the way we get upstairs from the kitchen and family room, we’re up and down these stairs a lot.”
A Metal Tile Wall
“I found this cool metallic tile. As you can see, some of them are innies, some are outties, and I just thought it was cool and edgy.
