Yes, Marie Kondo Organizes the Food on Her Plate, Too — And You Need to See the Pics
Do these pics of Marie Kondo's meals spark joy for you?
Petite though she may be, Marie Kondo is the source of outsized inspiration for declutterers across the country, as her Netflix show Tidying Up With Marie Kondo continues to attract attention — and trigger action. Since Kondo seems to authentically embody a genuine love of tidiness and order, it should come as no surprise that she has an ordered approach when it comes to her diet, too.
A scan of her Instagram reveals the many ways she maintains a sense of tidiness on her plates. In one image showing a china plate atop a crocheted placemat, tea sandwiches are garnished like art and plated with flowers. According to her caption, "My grandmother taught me the beauty in precision. That goes for all things, not just tidying! The greater the care you put into any practice, the deeper the joy you will experience in your own and others' artistry. Enjoying a beautifully prepared meal."
In another post, simply captioned, "lunch time," Kondo showed how she makes simple vegetables look both fancy and tidy, by arranging them in a thoughtful and spare way; including multiple colors from the rainbow; and even embellishing with star cutout shapes.
And no, you wouldn't think Kondo's children would go to school with a backpack full of Lunchables and Capri-Sun, would you?
For all of her attention to prettiness in plating, Kondo does at least acknowledge the reality that life (and certainly working-parent life) only sometimes allows for such flourishes. "If time allows, it does spark joy when my food is arranged in a pretty way," Kondo told TODAY Food via email.
That's a big if... but it's a nice idea, too.
