Why Exactly Katie Flood Popped Up on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8
Captain Sandy has questions about Luka Brunton's connection with the Season 6 alum.
Though Katie Flood most recently appeared on Season 3 of Winter House, the chief stew's name just popped up on Season 8 of Below Deck Mediterranean.
Katie, who previously worked with Captain Sandy Yawn on Season 6 of Below Deck Med, was brought up on Season 8, Episode 14, which aired on January 8.
It turns out that she's a mutual acquaintance of Captain Sandy and... Bosun Luka Brunton.

Why Katie Flood's Name Came Up on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8
While Luka was chatting with Captain Sandy in the wheelhouse, he received a text message from the Winter House-mate.
"She's in Portofino," Luka said to Sandy about the reason why the two were texting.
"Do you have a crush on Katie?" Sandy asked. "Because your smile is one of a crush."
"A crush smile? No, she's cute," Luke explained. "She used to date one of my mates. "
In an interview, Luka joked that, "According to Sandy, because I know Katie, she must be my girlfriend."
As viewers know, Luka has already been involved in an on-boat romance with Jessika. "I don't think Sandy has a clue about me and Jess at the moment," he added, referencing his boatmance with the stew. "It's always best that the captain doesn't know these things."
"You like her, I can tell. It stays right here," Sandy said to wrap up the conversation. However, Luka's text from Katie did not, in fact, stay right there.
Captain Sandy Yawn Brings Up Katie Flood in Front of Jessika Asai
When a few of the crew members were getting a bite to eat in the crew mess, Sandy noticed that Luka was smiling while looking at his cell phone.
"Is that your girlfriend texting you? On the other boat?" she teased. "You know I knew it was her because look at his face — Luka's smitten."
When chief stew Tumi Mhlongo asked for some clarity, Luka responded, "We've got a mutual friend, Katie Flood. She used to go out with one of my mates."
"He likes her," Sandy whispered to Tumi. "He likes her."
However, Jessika was also sitting in the crew mess when Sandy brought up Katie. Luka reiterated in a separate interview on the episode that he's "not f-cking dating Katie Flood."
"We're friends," he said. "Just friends."
Sandy Yawn Reacts to Luka Brunton's Boatmance with Jessika Asai
Later on in the episode, lead deckhand Lara Du Preez told Sandy about Luka's connection to Jessika.
"Oh, f-ck!" Sandy said once she realized what she had said about Katie in front of Jessika. "I don't know anything."
As she shared in an interview on the episode, she "had no idea that him and Jess have a thing going."
"Don't hate the player. Hate the game," she continued. "Whoops."
