What Lala Kent Said About Her "Baby Daddy" for Baby No. 2
During an Amazon Live stream on March 5, Lala shared that she was feeling grateful to be taking on Baby No. 2 as a solo parent.
In case you need a refresher, in January 2024, Lala confirmed to Cosmopolitan that she was using Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) to conceive her second child. Lala selected a sperm donor by looking at a series of questionnaires through California Cryobank.
"The best part about my baby daddy is that he does not exist," she said during her livestream. "I have been pretty open about wanting to really have full control of — I guess not my child, but having them around me all the time. I went through a really hard time with my past and just with Ocean, and I will say, my heart will always be up for grabs. I believe in love. I know that I will find love again, but for me, my child will never be up for grabs again."
Lala Kent's Experience with IUI
Before Lala decided to go the IUI route, she did consider other possibilities to expand her family. "I explored other options... I looked into adoption. I just knew, I love being a mom, and I don’t want to wait," she said. "And like I said, I don’t want to share my child again. It’s something that I’ve experienced, and I refuse to experience it again."
When it came time for Lala to select a donor, she didn't have a set list of criteria. "The donor that I chose, I just knew the moment that his profile popped up," she said. "Everyone asked me, ‘What are you looking for in your donor?’ And I said, ‘I’ll know what I’m looking for when I find it.’"
Lala noted that she wasn't going for looks or intelligence.
Andy Cohen Reacts to Lala Kent's Pregnancy News
When Lala appeared on WWHL just two days after making her pregnancy announcement, Andy couldn't help but express his excitement for the expectant mother.
"This is so exciting... Congrats, [I'm] so happy for you," he said at the top of the show. "This is great news, everybody is so happy for you."
Later on, during the After Show, Andy commented on Lala's "empowering" decision to go down the IUI route.
"You did it for yourself. I think it's so great. I think women get hung up, sometimes, on 'I need a man' or 'I need the convention of what it typically means in society to do this,'" Andy said, which you can check out by watching the video at the top of this post. "But I just respect the fact that you are making the life that you want."
Lala agreed, noting that she had found a "level of independence that [she] didn't know [she would ever have."
"I have a wonderful support system," Lala said, acknowledging her mom, Lisa, who was sitting in the crowd.
