Whitney Sudler-Smith Reveals the Luxe Details of His "Dark and Moody" Cottage (VIDEO)
The Southern Charm-er's renovated space on Patricia Altschul's property includes eye-catching decor and an "iconic" item from the 1950s.
On Season 9, Episode 14 of Southern Charm, Whitney Sudler-Smith revealed he had turned Michael Kelcourse's former cottage on his mom Patricia Altschul's property into a luxurious "hangout spot."
In a confessional interview, Whitney revealed he did a "gut renovation" on the cottage after Patricia's beloved butler moved out following his retirement after a spinal cord stroke in February 2021.
"I turned the bottom floor into kind of like an understated bar/pub/hangout spot," he shared on the episode which aired on December 21, 2023.
More recently, Whitney gave a full tour of Patricia's stunning Charleston estate (aka the historic Isaac Jenkins Mikell house) and shared more details about the cottage renovation.
In the video you can watch above, Whitney brings us into his sophisticated "cottage/office."
"I wanted something dark and moody, like a cool speakeasy but comfortable," Whitney shares in the video, showing off the incredible bottom floor of the space that is equal parts '70s-era James Bond and art deco lounge.
The space features a luxe, black marble bar, gold bar stools with black cushions, a black tile floor, a fireplace, and other cozy furnishings.
Whitney also showed off the beautiful "archways" over the bar shelves and kitchen area. The producer noted the decor was inspired by Gustave Klimt, a German painter of the late 19th/early 20th century whose works often featured gold flourishing.
The upper level of Whitney's cottage is a bit of a departure from the downstairs, though the colorful and bold elements still prosper.
"This is, I think, one of the cooler rooms in the universe," Whitney shares, gesturing to the room's hazy blue color, framed pop art pieces, cloud-like white sofa, vaulted ceiling, and more.
One of Whitney's most "iconic" pieces? A leopard-print chair "from the '50s," that pairs perfectly with his various electric guitars and black-and-white portrait of Elvis.
"I invite friends here and [we] have drinks, we hang out," Whitney continues in the video, noting how much he enjoys frequenting the area.
Southern Charm-ers React to Whitney Sudler-Smith's New Cottage
We love Whitney's updated cottage, and as it turns out, so do his friends.
"This is so nice," Paige DeSorbo shared on Season 9, Episode 15 of Southern Charm, which documented Whitney's Beyond the Valley of the Dolls-themed bash held at his newly renovated spot.
In an interview during the episode, which aired on January 4, Craig Conover quipped, "If Whitney was trying to build a place to bring single Charlestonian girls back to, he achieved his goal."
Taylor Ann Green also told Whitney he did a "great job with the place."
