Teresa Giudice defends Gia's involvement in RHONJ: "She's not a kid"

“I feel like Gia is, like, coming into her own on the show,” host Kelly Ripa said in the July 30 episode.

Teresa agreed and said she would “love” if Gia was more prominent on RHONJ, but knows that it would upset some of her castmates.

“I mean, she has grown up on the show,” Teresa said. “I mean, some people get jealous on the show that she’s around, like some of my cast members. And it’s like, who cares? And they call her a kid. And she’s not a kid. She’s 23. She’s an adult.”

Why was Gia Giudice brought up in the Teresa vs. John Fuda drama?

In Season 14, Episode 7, John Fuda mentioned Gia’s name when trying to defend himself against Teresa’s “drug dealer” comments. John — husband of RHONJ’s Rachel Fuda — admitted he got “in trouble for selling a little bit of marijuana” when he was 17 years old but has since learned from his mistakes.

“I was younger than her daughter Gia is, right? And I know in the past, I guess Jackie has accused Gia or made an allegation … that got spun out of control,” John said, referring to Jackie Goldschneider’s controversial Gia analogy in Season 11. “I was younger than that and you’re accusing me of being the largest drug dealer on top of it?”

Gia eventually caught wind of John’s comments and explained why John was comparing apples to oranges.

“What happened to [John] is not an analogy, it’s a fact about his past,” Gia told her mom in Season 14, Episode 9.

RHONJ's Melissa Gorga also took issue with the analogy, saying it was "weird" that John would even mention her niece's name.

“She’s a child; why are you talking to a child about adult conversations?” Melissa asked in the episode. “It’s so f-cking weird that a child is even — that’s so f-cking weird.”

In an effort to cool the situation, RHONJ’s Dolores Catania told Teresa and Gia that John never accused Gia of anything.

“He was putting into perspective you would get mad that somebody talked about your daughter at that age,” Dolores said.

However, Gia made it clear she wasn’t happy with the reference.

“Don’t use my name in an analogy,” she said in an episode interview. “Jackie, Fuda, I don’t care who you are. Mention your own kids’ name.”
