Carl Radke Opens up About Being "Sober For the First Time in the Hamptons" This Season on Summer House
"I'm much stronger for it," says the Summer House cast member during the Season 6 reunion.
Carl Radke is opening up about his sobriety journey. After previously sharing that he had made the decision to quit drinking, the Summer House cast member recently revealed during Part 1 of the Season 6 reunion what his experience in the Hamptons was like this time around, as Carl had let his housemates know he was "almost six months sober" at the start of the summer.
After host Andy Cohen asked Carl for an update on how long he had been sober, Carl responded, "It'll be almost 15 months next week."
Carl later went on to share that he was "sober for the first time in the Hamptons" and how important that pivotal experience was for him. "I had a very powerful summer. For me to go through this experience without drinking, I'm much stronger for it," he said, adding, "But I also think I can inspire my friends and others to look at their relationship with alcohol in a healthy way."
During the reunion, Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula also both noted the positive impact of Carl's decision to quit drinking, with Kyle saying, "I'm just so proud of him." Amanda also added, in reference to Carl's leadership role as vice president of sales for the drink company, Loverboy, "Now, he's able to just do what he's good at, and he's so good at it."
Earlier this year, Carl opened up about his commitment to sobriety in relation to his experience during Season 6 in the Hamptons in an interview with ET. "I grew confident as I had more experience because this was all new ground in the Hamptons for me," he said in the interview, adding, "My relationship with South Hampton and Montauk has been, like, Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night, 'til four in the morning, go, go, go, where this time, at the parties, I was able to enjoy it more for what it was."
Carl also received support and encouragement from his parents, as viewers saw him confide in his mother, Sharon, over the summer as she advised her son to "keep the focus" on himself. Carl recently acknowledged and expressed gratitude for his mom's guidance during challenging times with a heartfelt Instagram post.
"Thank you for always taking care of us, even when it wasn't easy," he wrote in the caption of his post, adding, "Your strength and love have guided me. You deserve a Mother’s Year! I love you."
