Carl Radke Just Experienced Something Very Special on His Sobriety Journey
The Summer House roommate opened up about his "very emotional, challenging, yet pivotal" year-and-a-half.
Last year, Carl Radke made the decision to quit drinking, and he opened up about his sobriety in Season 5 of Summer House. Now, more than a year after making this major lifestyle change, Carl is reflecting on his journey and sharing a special experience with fans.
In a post on Instagram on November 4, Carl described his recent solo trip to Tulum, Mexico, which had a profound effect on him and the current life he is trying to live. "A month ago I took a solo trip to Tulum and spent a couple days focusing on myself and recharging. [It's] been a very emotional, challenging, yet pivotal year and a half," Carl shared in the post. "With everything that has been going on I haven’t had [the] chance to take a trip or really [get away] and take time to do some things I truly enjoy."
Carl went on to explain how travel has changed for him now that he is living a sober lifestyle. "A couple years ago my trip priorities would have been very very different. This time was all about meditation, yoga, sleep, healthy eating, working out, reading, listening to music. Doing things for me," he wrote. "My top priority in 2021 is sobriety and stop worrying about what others are doing or chasing [hollow] moments."
Carl has already seen all the effort he has put into maintaining his sobriety pay off. "I feel very lucky to be able to take a trip like this but I got here by doing work each day and implementing a lot of gratitude in my life," he said. "This experience allowed me [to] come back re-energized, centered and focused, which in a beautiful way allows me [to] be there for my family and friends."
In his post, Carl included several gorgeous photos from his time in Mexico, which included days at the beach and dining on some delicious-looking food. "I wanted to share ['cause] Mexico has some incredible landscape, cuisine and even kinder people," he wrote before giving "a massive thank you" and tagging those who showed him "some local flavors," adding that it was "great to meet some new friends."
"MUCHAS GRACIAS - Carlito," he ended his post.
Carl received a lot of love and support in the comments, including from his good friend, Lindsay Hubbard, who wrote, "I’m beyond proud of you, your strength, and your journey! Love you my Lito!"
Carl has also been dedicated to helping others live a healthier lifestyle, becoming an advocate for mental health awareness following his brother Curtis' passing in August 2020. In a video commemorating World Mental Health Day last month, Carl shared an update on how he's been doing following another loss and encouraged others to check in on their own mental health.
"I actually just wanted to share a little bit because I took a little break. About a week-and-a-half ago, finding out that my grandmother had passed away. Just another reminder for me to take better care of myself and focus on each day doing a little bit of work to better my mental health," Carl shared. "I can honestly say it's a daily effort for me. You know, meditation, therapy, working out. They all go hand-in-hand because the more you work on it, the better it will improve. So a lot of work you do on the inside will certainly have a benefit on the outside. But I want to let you guys know you're not alone. It's OK not to be OK. And there are tons of resources out there, so if you need help, ask for it."
Since we last saw Carl at the Summer House Season 5 reunion, he has also been getting in a lot of time with family and friends, including his mom and fan favorite, Sharon, as well as attending Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula's wedding in September.
