Here’s the Reason Carl Radke Went to the Hospital on Summer House

On the May 1 episode of Summer House, Bravo fans finally witnessed Carl Radke’s romantic proposal to Lindsay Hubbard. And while it was heartwarming to see Carl get down on one knee, the special moment almost didn’t happen due to a health scare.

Days before the engagement, Kyle Cooke told Andrea Denver that Carl was in the hospital while they were driving up to the Hamptons. As Kyle broke the news to Andrea, Lindsay called Kyle to explain what happened to her soon-to-be fiancé.

“We went to a concert — Carl’s behind me dancing with his arms around me, and all of a sudden he’s like, ‘I need to sit down,’” Lindsay said on the phone. “And so next thing you know… his legs are like wobbling and he’s looking at me and he’s like, ‘I can’t feel my legs.’” 

Lindsay explained that after she and Carl arrived at the hospital, the doctors told her his “blood pressure” and “heart rate” were low, so he was admitted to the ER. Fortunately, Carl was discharged “two hours” before Lindsay updated Kyle on the situation.

In Kyle’s confessional, he mentioned that Carl texted him about being hospitalized because he had been drinking too much caffeine. However, Kyle thought his friend was unwell because he was about to take the next step in his relationship. “I know the weekend of Carl’s proposal is upon us because he fainted and he’s in the hospital,” Kyle admitted. “He’s freaking out.”

Once Kyle arrived in the Hamptons, he told the Summer House cast (minus Ciara Miller and Amanda Batula) that Carl was in the hospital. Moments after, while chilling out in his room, Kyle FaceTimed Carl to check in on him.

On the video call, Kyle quipped, “How much do you think of this is, like, nerves, anxiety, [or] stress?” Carl’s response? “I think it’s a big part of it… I’ve just been trying to pull off the surprise of the century with having [Lindsay’s] parents come, getting her friends there, [and] trying to get the ring.”

To lighten the mood, Kyle put a smile on Carl’s face by blaming his stress on the “proposal” and “lack of water.” Carl ended their conversation by sharing that he and Lindsay are getting some much-needed rest before heading up to the Hamptons for their special day.

Later in the episode, Carl and Lindsay reunited with the Hamptons crew, and he reassured everyone that he was feeling better. In an interview, Carl joked about his situation: “I panicked attacked myself into the hospital. Like, Jesus, Carl, get your s--t together.”

Carl also explained how the experience is “another reminder” of how much he adores Lindsay: “She slept right there next to me and was with me every inch of the way and had to do all the stuff to help my panicked attacked ass out.”
