Why Melissa and Joe Gorga Took Away Antonia’s Porsche
The Real Housewives of New Jersey couple experienced a parenting first, according to Melissa.
The Gorgas are laying down the law.
Melissa Gorga revealed as much during Jeff Lewis Live on Thursday, January 26, telling the Radio Andy host that she and her husband, Joe Gorga, recently grounded their daughter, Antonia, from driving her Porsche — a parenting first for them.
Explaining what brought about the punishment, Melissa recalled a recent evening when she and Joe were “exhausted” after working all day, but as soon as they were ready to relax, their son Joey excitedly told them, “I want to go snowboarding! All my friends are going snowboarding! You’ve got to take me down the street!”
“It’s probably like a 15- to 20-minute drive to drop him off,” Melissa continued. “I’m like, ‘No, Joey. I’m not getting up.’ Joe’s like, ‘I’m not getting up.’ ... And so we look at Antonia, and Joe’s like, ‘Antonia, get in your car, go take him, he wants to go snowboarding.’”
Her response? “‘Absolutely not,’” according to Melissa. What followed was “a good 20 minutes of her just refusing to drive her brother.”
Eventually, Joe asked Antonia for her car keys. “She was like, ‘He’s not actually gonna do this…’ [but] he did it, and she hasn’t drove that car this whole week,” Melissa said. “First time we’ve ever done this to her.”
Naturally, Antonia hasn’t loved being without her Porsche. As her mom put it, “She’s been losing it. And I wanted to give in, I’m not gonna lie. I already called him yesterday, I’m like, ‘Joe, I can’t take her. I’m not taking her. I’m not driving her to cheer practice. Give her her keys.’”
However, Joe “did not give in,” Melissa added. “So I am curious to see if she says no to us again.”
Antonia’s week hasn’t been all bad, though. Both she and her parents took to Instagram on January 25 to share photos of their rainy-day tour of the University of Delaware. Antonia was recently accepted to the school, as well as the University of Rhode Island and Penn State University. Get all the details on her latest college update here.
