Shamea Morton Welcomes Second Child and She’s Feeling Love and Support from the RHOA Crew
The RHOA friend, with Married to Medicine’s Dr. Jackie by her side, became a mom again via surrogate, and now she’s sharing the baby’s emotional journey.
We’re sending some mazels down to Atlanta. Shamea Morton is officially a mom again! The Real Housewives of Atlanta friend welcomed her second child, a daughter named Shiloh, via surrogate.
Following the baby’s arrival, Shamea shared the emotional details of the baby’s arrival on Instagram, where she also posted a first photo of the newborn (which you can see here along with her sharing the baby’s journey).
“Hey Best friends! I appreciate all of the calls, texts, dm’s etc… I’ve been too overwhelmed to talk and every time I talk about it I cry. Shiloh was born on Valentine’s Day at 7:58pm. She weighed 6 lbs 8 ounces and she was 18.5 inches. She was a nice size preemie! She def didn’t miss a meal. I cut the umbilical cord and we got a faint cry so we thought everything was fine. Moments later she began to struggle to breathe. The doctors immediately began to work on her but she eventually had to be put on 100% oxygen,” Shamea explained. “A few hours later she was intubated and placed on a ventilator. That’s where we are now. I’ve been a mess, heart palpitations, anxiety etc… but Shiloh is a fighter. [Surrogate Shadina Blunt] is doing well and she’s been doing updates on her page. Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.”
Shamea first confirmed that her surrogate, Shadina Blunt (who was previously Kandi Burruss’ surrogate), was going into labor on Tuesday, February 14. They were joined by Married to Medicine ob-gyn Dr. Jackie Walters for the delivery.
Ahead of the baby’s birth, Shamea shared several Instagrams, writing in one, “Of course, she wanted to make her debut on Valentine’s Day, so here we are playing the waiting game. The party should begin around 10am, when [Jackie] breaks [Shadina]’s water!”
Shamea and her husband, Gerald Mwangi, are already parents to daughter Shya Nyambura Mwangi, who previously confirmed that she is ready for her promotion to big-sister status.
Before the baby was born, Shamea posted a tribute to her husband, writing, “As we patiently await baby Shiloh’s arrival I had to take some time to say Happy Valentine’s Day to my WONDERFUL husband! You are everything that I prayed for and more. Literally the man of my dreams. THANK YOU for loving me without boundaries! I’ve ALWAYS been able to be my complete silly, twerk sum self around you and you vibe with me but most importantly you’ve never asked me to change. Cheers to you soulmate!”
The news of the baby’s arrival got love and support in the comments from RHOA's Porsha Williams, Kandi, and Cynthia Bailey, the latter of whom recently attended Shamea’s baby shower, among others. Shereé Whitfield and Porsha’s sister, Lauren Williams, also posted in the comments of Shamea’s Instagram as she shared updates on the baby’s birth. Married to Medicine’s Dr. Heavenly Kimes, Dr. Contessa Metcalfe, and Dr. Simone Whitmore and The Real Housewives of Potomac's Gizelle Bryant also posted their support for the mom.
Shamea confirmed in November 2022 that she and Gerald were expecting their second child. “We’re having a baby via surrogacy!” Shamea shared on Instagram at the time. “It’s been such a long journey! [Seven] rounds of IVF, failed transfers…etc. I wanted to carry but God had other plans. He always knows best! I’m so grateful. I’m having a baby!”
She also previously opened up about the experience of being introduced to her surrogate by Kandi. “She’s so selfless! Always giving and doing for others,” Shamea wrote in her Instagram caption about the mom of three. “She introduced me to my surrogate and any time there’s an opportunity, from hosting gigs to acting, she puts me on… Love you.”
