Get an Aerial View of Patricia and Whitney's "Incredible" Backyard: "We're Lucky" (VIDEO)
Southern Charm's Whitney Sudler-Smith shares a new look at the Charleston estate he lives in with his mother, Patricia Altschul.
We can never get enough of Patricia Altschul and Whitney Sudler-Smith's gorgeous home and gardens. Now, we get to see all its stunning splendor from above.
In the video above, Whitney gives a full tour of his mother's jaw-dropping property, including its English country-style interior and exterior gardens that have remained true to their original 19th-century design. In various parts of the tour, we can see beautiful aerial views of the home that's often featured on Southern Charm.
In the images below, see how the 9,500-square-foot Greek revival-style mansion built in 1853 sits nestled among various homes in Charleston and is surrounded by lush greenery (and plenty of palm trees).
"This is the Isaac Jenkins Mikell house built by British artisans and it's on the [National Register of Historic Places]," Whitney states about the awe-inspiring abode. "It's one of the greatest houses in America."
In the snapshot below, take a closer look at the home's beautiful outdoor landscaping, which Whitney notes are "formal boxwood gardens originally planted in 1853."
The elegant gardens sit amidst a lovely in-ground pool we've seen several times on Southern Charm. "It's hard to build pools in Charleston these days, as they have to be grandfathered-in," Whitney explains.
He adds: "This was built in the '80s, so we're lucky that we have a house with a pool, but not many houses in Charleston have pools because they don't allow them."
The Interior Design of Patricia Altschul and Whitney Sudler-Smith's Home
In addition to the luxe outdoor space, Patricia and Whitney's home includes a next-level interior, with eye-popping elements via the late Mario Buatta, who was Patricia's trusted interior decorator.
"The idea is to imbue a sense of style and understated comfort," Whitney says during the tour, showing off the "double drawing room," library, dining room, and luxurious foyer with "very high ceilings."
Whitney is sure to point out Buatta's unique aesthetic touches, including the "Apple green" paint color of one of the rooms which he notes is a "staple" of the decorator.
Other notable elements include a "Chinoiserie cabinet" and chairs from the 18th century, restored crown molding he calls a "work of art," and more.
