Why Kristen Doute & Luke Broderick Haven't Started Wedding Planning: "We're on the Baby Train"
The Valley couple revealed they want to start a family before tying the knot.
Kristen Doute won’t be rushing down the aisle.
Less than two weeks after announcing her engagement, The Valley cast member revealed she had yet to start the wedding planning process and likely wouldn’t do so until at least next year. Why? Well, because she and her fiancé, Luke Broderick, want to welcome a child before exchanging their “I dos.”
The couple spoke about their decision in the September 20 episode of their Balancing Act podcast, explaining why they didn't want their wedding ceremony to distract from their pregnancy plans.
Kristen & Luke want to start a family before getting hitched
“After we got engaged, Luke, you said to me… ‘We’re not gonna plan a wedding until after babies,’” Kristen recalled. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, I feel like we’re on the baby train.’ Otherwise, we have to take a break from trying for babies to plan a wedding. We can’t do both. I would prefer not to do both.”
Luke fully agreed with his fiancée, saying it was sensical to focus on getting pregnant before dealing with a wedding.
“I think, with our timeline, we should have a baby first and then start planning after that,” he said. “And I know that ladies like to be feeling really good in their wedding dress… You don’t want the baby weight. And you also don’t wanna get fitted for a dress and then lose or gain weight if you’re pregnant or you’re whatever. And then have to dress not fit on the day. Like, there’s all these different complications.”
Luke has a vision for his and Kristen's wedding ceremony
Although they aren’t planning a wedding anytime soon, the couple already knows what their ceremony will look like. Luke said he could see himself taking over the planning process to ensure the festivities were kept “simple.”
“I want to have a wedding, a formal wedding, where it’s officiated and we have a beautiful wedding wherever we are having our honeymoon,” he explained. “So we stay there for an extended period of time. We have our closest friends and family. That way we can limit it, make it smaller guest list… We do that and have an awesome wedding at, not necessarily at a resort, but like on a beach.”
Luke said he and Kristen would likely start planning their wedding after they welcome their first child.
Kristen opens up about her fertility journey
“Luke and I have, obviously, been trying to get pregnant,” Kristen said before touching on her miscarriage. “We got pregnant a year ago, we had a loss. We’ve tried but not tracked it super hard until I would say, like the last, I don’t know, four or five months or so.”
The couple said they’re now seeing a fertility specialist and are holding off on the in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) options. Kristen said she is now on medication to improve her pregnancy chances.
“I am on medication now. That’s kind of as far as we’re going at the moment,” Kristen said. “We’ve been tested, both Luke and I, just making sure the swimmers are swimming. You know, my body’s ready to go to carry and we’re looking good on all of that but for some reason, it’s just, it’s not taking.”
