Laura Betancourt Explains What She Meant When She Told Kate Chastain to "Check Yourself"
Here's what actually pushed the Below Deck third stew to her breaking point in Season 6.
If we had to sum up this season of Below Deck in just one word, we wouldn't be able to do it. That's because we'd need two words that will now forever have a special place in Below Deck history: "Check yourself." Yes, that iconic quote was uttered by Laura Betancourt after Kate Chastain confronted her about her turndown service earlier this season.
By Laura telling Kate to "check yourself," it was clear that the third stew had a major issue with her superior. However, we have to admit that we weren't exactly sure why Laura used those words to communicate her frustration with the chief stew — or what they meant at all, really.
Luckily, Laura explained everything during the Below Deck Season 6 After Show, which you can view, above. "Because sometimes we have to check ourselves. Everybody has to check themselves in their position, what they're doing. I don't care who you are," she said. "You know what, sometimes you lose track of reality, and you're too much in your head and your ego, and you need someone to tell you that exact thing, so that's what I did."
Or, as it is also sometimes put, "Check yourself before you wreck yourself," friends!
Laura also admitted in the After Show that she's "not proud" of how she behaved toward Kate. "But you know what? You get pushed to a point, and I'm so human and real that I couldn't hold it in," she said. "I asked her, 'Could I have a word?' And she shut me down. She knew I was pissed, and she was pushing me even further."
Kate said she actually "saw it coming" from Laura, and she believes the third stew was pushed to her breaking point as the result of a "culmination of many things."
