Kate Chastain Reacts to Aesha Scott’s “Exciting” Marriage Update: “So Unique and Rare”

The Below Deck alum is weighing in on the Below Deck Mediterranean chief stew's plans with fiancé Scott Dobson.

By Sophie Vilensky

In case you haven't heard, Aesha Scott is getting married!

Although Aesha and fiancé Scott Dobson aren't rushing to say "I do" just yet, they have already made one major decision about their future as a married couple. On Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 12,  which aired on August 19, Aesha joked that Scott would take her last name, thereby becoming Scott Scott. As it turns out, that is what Scott plans to do after all.

In the Below Deck Mediterranean After Show video above, Kate Chastain asked Aesha, "Is Scott really going to take your last name?"

"That's the plan!" Aesha responded. "Because how funny is that?"

After learning that Scott's last name is Dobson, Kate was fully on board with him changing it to Scott. "And then you can have a baby named Scott!" she quipped.

Aesha Scott Opens Up About Scott Dobson Taking Her Last Name

In the clip, Aesha elaborated on Scott's decision to change his name.

"He's never liked his last name. He thinks it's, like, a boring kind of name," she said. "I don't actually think it's that boring, but he's never loved the name. And when else in life are you gonna get the chance to be your first name twice? It's so funny."

Kate agreed, saying, "It's so unique and rare...You've gotta take this opportunity. This is so exciting, and you get to keep your last name."

Even if Scott hadn't agreed to take her name, Aesha wouldn't have let her last name go.

"I've always found it so bizarre, the woman just blindly taking the man's name. Because that's who you are. I am Aesha Scott. I don't want to get rid of it," she said.

Kate then made the suggestion that they could hyphen their names and become the Scott-Dobsons.

"That's actually nice!" said Aesha. "And then my last name is my boyfriend's name. And then our kids can be Scott Jr. Scott-Dobson. Just carry it on down baby. Yeah, I'm into it."

Will Kate Chastain attend Aesha Scott's wedding?

Unfortunately, Kate probably won't be in attendance at the December 2025 wedding.

"I do not think I'll be making it to Aesha's wedding," Kate shared when she spoke with The Daily Dish in July. "I'm sure it'll be in New Zealand, and that's just a bit of a far trip."

With that being said, many others from the Below Deck universe will be around.

"Oh gosh, there's too many to name," Aesha said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in July, adding that several cast members from Season 9 will make the guest list. "Captain Sandy [Yawn], definitely... Joe [Bradley]Nathan [Gallagher], there's too many to name."
