We Have a New Update on Joe Giudice's Deportation Case

Joe Giudice's fight to stay in the United States continues.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey husband and his legal team recently requested more time to file an opening brief in federal court as part of his appeal of his deportation order, according to court records, as reported by the North Jersey Record. Joe's request was granted unopposed, and he has been given three extra days to file the opening brief. It is now due on July 18.

Joe previously asked for an "extension of time to file opening brief" last month as the original June 12 deadline loomed. That motion, which was unopposed and granted on June 7, pushed Joe's deadline back to July 15.

Joe's deportation battle began in October 2018 when a judge ordered that he be deported back to Italy, where he was born, following the completion of his 41-month prison sentence for mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud, which ended in March. His subsequent appeal to the judge's decision was denied in April.

However, Joe did not let that setback defeat him. He and his legal team vowed to "continue to fight" to keep him in the U.S.

The RHONJ husband has received some good news in his ongoing deportation and immigration case in recent months. He was granted permission to stay in the U.S. in May during his legal battle. Joe also received support from 27 former immigration judges who filed a motion in his pending appeal providing reasons why he should not be deported.

Joe's family hasn't stopped supporting their patriarch either, whether it's setting up a petition to keep him in the country, sending him love on social media, or visiting him at a facility in western Pennsylvania, which houses immigration detainees, where he has been staying since his release from prison on March 14.

Of course, Joe has missed some major milestones in the life of his wife, Teresa Giudice, and their four daughters (Gia, 18, Gabriella, 14, Milania, 13, and Audriana, 9) over the course of his prison sentence and subsequent release, including holidays, graduations, and summer fun. Joe's absence during these memorable moments has been and will continue to be the most difficult thing for his family to deal with if he does end up getting deported, Teresa shared in the above exclusive video for Bravo Insider.

"If he gets deported, he'll never be able to go to their graduation[s], celebrate their birthdays, anything," she said. "He's going to be missing out on so much. The girls adore their father, and no child should have to go through what my daughters are going through. They should have their daddy here."
