Gizelle Bryant Has an Update on How She's Co-Parenting with Jamal as Grace Heads Off to College

Gizelle hinted it wouldn't be easy for her to navigate major milestones with her oldest on The Real Housewives of Potomac.

Gizelle Bryant and her ex-husband, Jamal, may no longer be a couple, but they’re still co-parenting their oldest daughter, Grace, as she prepares for senior year milestones like prom and graduation.

Grace leaving the nest isn’t easy for Gizelle.

“Listen, I have been preparing Grace to be on her own from the moment she was born,” Gizelle said on Episode 3 of Season 8's The Real Housewives of Potomac.  “And she is about to graduate from high school and go to college. So proud of her. So happy for her. But yes, it is sad.”

How Gizelle and Jamal are co-parenting their daughters

As Gizelle took Grace clothes shopping for the end of her senior year and college, Grace informed her mother she needs tank tops for “party time,” prompting Gizelle to reminisce on sending her daughter off on her own.

“My love for her is way more important than my tears,” Gizelle said in her confessional.

Gizelle suggested a sparkly dress for Grace as she browsed through the clothes, but Grace already had a prom dress. She also told her mom she was going to be “dateless” for the prom, which made Gizelle happy that she’d be “just free” at the dance.

“No babysitting these little boys out here,” Gizelle added in her confessional. “They don’t know how to mingle in the crowd.”

Gizelle asked her daughter what the “hot dances are these days,” to which Grace poked fun at her mom, responding, “Not what you do.”

Gizelle also reminded Grace that her father would be coming to see her off for prom.

“Is he going to be freaking out when he sees you in your dress?” Gizelle asked. “Because your dress is [scantily clad] … you have four cutouts on the side!”

But they’re “small” cutouts, Grace reminded her mom.

It’s not the first time Gizelle and Jamal have hinted at co-parenting their three daughters, Grace, and 16-year-old twins, Angel and Adore. They were married from 2002 to 2009, and have reunited and separated in the years since, including a brief romance during Season 5, before parting ways again in 2021 because of the pressure of long-distance dating.

“Jamal and I are as best of friends as we’ve always been [with] co-parenting [and] all that,” Gizelle said on Good Morning Washington in November 2022.

Gizelle posted a snapshot of her and her twins in September 2023 dressed all in red together, and Jamal hinted that he’d been with his family in the photo, commenting, “Where’s the [thanks] to the photographer.”

We also know Jamal was there as Grace walked across the stage in her cap and gown to officially become a high school graduate. Back in June 2023, Gizelle shared a photo of Grace cutting into her graduation cake, with Jamal standing by Gizelle’s side in the background.
