Caroline Stanbury Wasn't Always the Fierce Fashionista You See Today, Says Pal Adela King
Find out what the #LadiesOfLondon mom was really like before the show.
Adela King may be a new face this season of Ladies of London, but she's been in Caroline Stanbury's life for a long time. "Caroline and I met when we were super young. I just kind of bumped into her," Adela told The Daily Dish. "I remember one day I came out of a store wearing a Prada handbag. I saw her look at me from across the street. And the next day, she's got exactly the same Prada handbag as me. And that just made me laugh."
Adela also said that Caroline "had no clue how to dress" when they first met each other. If you think Adela is being a little harsh about her friend, that's just how their friendship is. "We've always had this incredibly direct, honest relationship. Always," Adela said. "There's no holds barred when we talk."
That means she's not afraid to let Caroline have it when it seems like she's channeling her inner Queen Bee. "I love her, and I've always loved her, but there are some things that I don't agree with," Adela said. "I don't like it when she picks on people weaker than her. I do find that I need to stand up for them. And then she gets incredibly angry for doing that. But that's just the way I am. I'm just not gonna hold back."
But when these two fight, it's never for long. "We've had extensive arguments in the past, but it literally dissolves the next day," she shared. "We would just always bounce back together."
Adela said that she and Caroline have become particularly close in the last four years, and they've shared a lot with each other during the course of their relationship. "We've always had this kind of connection," she said. "She comes to me for advice, and I go to her for advice. It's just always been kind of like that."
But all in all, Adela described Caroline as a fabulous and fierce friend. "Caroline is, she's great. She's a networker," Adela said. "She's hardworking. She's ambitious. She's got it all. She's charming. She's funny. And she's ruthless."
As Adela experienced Caroline's move from London to Dubai, she could only respect her friend's decision. "That was her choice, and she was excited about it. All you can do is support your friends if they're happy about it," she said. "If she was coming to me and going, 'Oh my God, I can't believe I've got to go.' No, she embraced it. It was her decision to go, and I'm gonna support my friends in whatever they want to do if it makes them happy."
It doesn't sound like she's afraid of the distance getting in the way of their friendship, either. "She comes back pretty much every other week," Adela said. "And it's only [four] hours time difference, so she's always texting."
Adela can always count on Caroline to give it to her straight, too. "If I called her up, and I needed advice or help or whatever, I'm not gonna say she'd drop everything at once to come and see me (she has done that once), but she'd be on the end of that phone, and she'd give it to me like it is," she shared. "As hard as her advice is, as hard as it is to follow, it's good advice, and I like people who say it like it is."
Caroline definitely kept it real with Julie Montagu in the Season 3 premiere of Ladies of London. Relive their tense talk, below.
