Captain Sandy Yawn Details Being a Stepmom to Leah Shafer's Daughter: "She's a Cool Kid"
The Below Deck Mediterranean boss also opens up about her stepdaughter’s upcoming college journey.
On May 11, Captain Sandy Yawn officially became a married woman after tying the knot to Leah Shafer with a superyacht wedding ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Not only did the Below Deck Mediterranean boss gain the illustrious title of being a wife after saying ‘”I do,” but she also became a proud stepmom to Leah’s daughter, Lauren “Lolo” Rae Shafer.
In a recent interview with The Daily Dish, Sandy opened up about the role she plays in the life of the recent high school graduate, and how the new stepmom title doesn't change their relationship. "You know, Lolo's graduated and going off to college… I was there for five years in her life," she said. "I don't think anything's changed."
Sandy continued to reveal how close the two have become over the years. “Our relationship's the best. Now it's like oh my god, you're officially my stepmom,” the Below Deck Med captain explained. “[I’m] like, yeah, you're officially my stepdaughter, so it's really cool. Highfiving and hugging. She's a cool kid.”

Captain Sandy Yawn on Leah Shafer's daughter's college journey
With Lolo completing her senior year of high school, the 18-year-old is about to embark on a journey to college. Sandy even joked about her stepdaughter possibly not having time for her or her mom, Leah, once she dives back into academia, saying, "[Lolo is] off to college. She's like, Sandy who? Leah who?"
However, Sandy is certain that Lolo will visit her and Leah in Florida whenever she’s on break from college.
Leah Shafer’s sweet tribute to her daughter Lolo
Just two weeks after her dreamy coastal wedding, Leah penned a heartfelt message to her daughter in honor of her receiving her diploma.
“And just like that, you graduated High School! No words to how proud I am of you,” Leah wrote in a May 22 Instagram post with a series of photos of her daughter. “I’m off to Florida and living apart from you for the first time ever. Life will not be the same without you under my roof full-time.”
She ended the post by writing, “Mommy will miss you every day, but I know you’ll come and visit and I will visit you.”
