Hear Captain Lee’s No-Nonsense Parenting Advice for Kate Chastain (VIDEO)
Below Deck's Lee Rosbach had some words of wisdom for his former chief stewardess.
Below Deck's Captain Lee Rosbach isn't one to mince his words. The captain recently shared some words of wisdom for close friend (and former chief stewardess) Kate Chastain, and his advice had to do with diaper changes and table manners.
In the Couch Talk With Captain Lee and Kate clip above, you can hear the frank parenting advice that Captain Lee gave to Kate.
Captain Lee and his wife, Mary Ann, raised five children together. This past May, Kate became a mama for the first time, after giving birth to a little boy named Sullivan Cay. Since stepping into motherhood, Kate has learned some lessons the hard way.
For example, after buying four different baby carriers, all of which her son "hated," Kate learned that Sullivan only wants to sleep on her chest. Though her learning curve has been fast, the former chief stew is still open to advice — especially when it's from someone she has immense respect for.
That's why, in the clip above, she turns to Captain Lee and asks: "Do you have any parenting advice for me? I'll take whatever you got."

"You would think after [raising] five [kids] I would have a lot [of advice] wouldn't you?" Captain Lee asks. Well, he does have a lot of it, and here's what he advises: "Be a parent first, and a friend later," he says. Then he adds, nonchalantly: "Somebody's got to be the dick."
When Kate asks the captain for some specific advice regarding boys, he replies: "That age, where [Sullivan] is now? Just watch where that thing's going off. They'll get you. No matter how hard you try. You got to keep your guard up."
Kate goes on to share her number-one priority when it comes to parenting. "I don't even care if [Sullivan] can read, as long as he's got good manners," she says. "Manners are going to be first."
Captain Lee is on board with that. "We did have rules [in our household]," he shares. "Before you got up from the table, you had to ask ... can I be excused? If we went out to somebody's house for dinner, you did not start eating until the host had sat down. And my children wouldn't even think of calling some adult by their first name," he continues. "If they did, they only did it once."
