How Patricia Altschul Summons "Thoughts of Home" When She's Traveling Abroad
The Southern Charm grande dame is always sure to pack these items to remind her of home.
Patricia Altschul may reside in the one of the more covetable homes in Charleston, South Carolina: a grand historic manse whose interiors were outfitted by the late great designer Mario Buatta. However, domestic trappings aside, that doesn’t mean she won’t jump when the travel bug hits. The Southern Charm doyenne frequently jets off to her old stomping grounds in New York, as well as to Los Angeles and Europe. And when she does, she is always sure to take a bit of home with her.
In an extensive discussion of her travel and packing regime in Town and Country magazine, Patricia revealed that when she travels she surrounds herself “with objects that summon thoughts of home aid in my getting a good night’s sleep.”
To that end, she says she always packs a votive of her favorite fragrance, Bamboo by Nest. It not only makes her feel close to home but neutralizes the scent of disinfectants. (She thoroughly wipes down surfaces when she travels to avoid contact with germs and pathogens.)
In addition, she brings her own pillowcase— a Slip silk case. “Aside from feeling luxurious, I truly believe a silk pillowcase helps to prevent wrinkles. I know it preserves my hairstyle," she explained.
