Josh Altman Sold Carlton Gebbia's Former Beverly Hills Castle for $13.9M: See Inside
The Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles broker represented the RHOBH alum's ex-husband David Gebbia in the sale of the memorable gothic abode.
When Josh Altman and Matt Altman went to look at a listing in the affluent Beverly Ridge neighborhood on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles' August 18 episode, the realtor brothers stepped foot inside a unique piece of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills history.
The castle-like home was being sold by David Gebbia (who was previously married to RHOBH alum Carlton Gebbia) and his brother, Rich. The abode, purchased by David and Calrton in 2004, was filled with unique features including a cross pool with a Baja shelf, multiple indoor Juliet balconies, wrought-iron railings, a 200-year-old fireplace, gothic mosaics, and an entertainment area featuring a custom wood-carved bar and gilded ceilings.
"At the time, my ex was involved in the design and she's from England," David explained. "So we brought in a lot of that."
During an RHOBH Season 4 flashback seen on the MDLLA episode, Carlton explained the unique design of the home. "When I was probably about 7 years old, I would imagine the castle that I would build," she said at the time. "We did it, we bloody did it."
Of course, as fans will remember, the most unique area of the home was the burlesque room, which still boasted a pole when Josh and Matt went to take a look. While Josh was adamant about removing the pole for showings, Matt quipped: "That is special."
Because the five-bedroom, six-bathroom abode was "such a specific house," as Josh put it, he knew this might not be his easiest listing to get off the market. Still, he felt it was a great deal for the right buyer.
"I know this castle is going to be a tough sell," he admitted. "But the second somebody sees 1.25 acres in an exclusive gated community with a current lot value of 12 million dollars, this house is going to joust itself into escrow."
"You got a house that's gothic, kind of medieval, cool but you also have state-of-the-art," Josh noted of the house, located on a 74,523 square-foot-lot. "You got the steam room."
The neighborhood was also certainly a perk within the price tag. "Beverly Ridge is an enclave to the rich and famous in north Beverly Hills," Josh explained. "There's only 11 mansions in this neighborhood, so if one goes on the market, you instantly have one of the most coveted properties in Los Angeles."
While Josh and Matt initially listed the home for $16.5M, after much negotiating, Josh was able to close the deal for $13.9M.
