Captain Sandy Reveals She “Never Thought” She’d Propose to Someone & Shares Wedding News
Below Deck Mediterranean boss Captian Sandy Yawn is getting candid about her engagement to fiancé, Leah Shafer.
Captain Sandy Yawn and Leah Shafer’s love boat has officially left the dock, and there’s nothing but smooth seas ahead.
In September, the longtime Below Deck Mediterranean boss announced that she had proposed to her girlfriend of five years. “I have been thinking about marrying Leah for years,” Captain Sandy told E! News. “I knew from the minute I met her, but the timing had to be right. I wanted to make sure we could truly do life together first.”
Now, nearly a month after taking her relationship to the next level, Captain Sandy revealed new details about her and Leah’s engagement when she stopped by the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on October 9.
Captain Sandy Yawn shares new details on her engagement
During Monday’s episode, host Andy Cohen congratulated Captain Sandy on her recent milestone before asking about Leah’s reaction to the engagement.
“You two are such a great couple. You have a great love story. You’re so in love. Was she surprised when you proposed?” Andy quipped.
“Yes she was,” Captain Sandy replied, adding, “[Be]cause I said, ‘I would never do that.’”
Her answer definitely came as a shock to the WWHL host, who was in awe afterward. That wasn’t the only surprising tidbit Captain Sandy shared about her relationship. She even took the time to reveal some wedding details after Andy inquired about the upcoming ceremony.

“When’s the wedding?” Andy asked on WWHL.
“I think in February or March next year,” Captain Sandy told Andy.
“And do you know where it will be?” Andy quipped for his final question, to which Sandy responded, “I want it to be on a beach with no shoes – small."
Details on Captain Sandy Yawn’s proposal to Leah Shafer
With Captain Sandy revealing that she wants an intimate beach wedding, it seems like she is keeping in theme with her proposal.
Last month, during her chat with E! News, the Be the Calm or Be the Storm author shared how she thought of popping the question to Leah.
“Leah wanted the fairy tale, and to me, Leah represents elegance,” she told the news outlet. “I planned a boat ride to a beautiful cove. I had it decorated with flowers with a path to a small table accompanied by three violinists where we could sit and have a small date.”
Once the couple arrived at the cove, Captain Sandy kneeled on one knee and asked Leah to marry her.
“I shared my vision list of love I had written and wanted, then got on one knee. Then she said yes! The look on her face was priceless, and my heart exploded! It was filled beyond capacity of anything I could ever imagine,” Captain Sandy continued. “Somehow I feel closer than I did before, and I can’t explain it. There is an energy that I have never experienced in my life. I love her beyond; as Leah says Yawn beyond.”
