These Are the Top Chefs Who Just Won James Beard Awards
Bravo's Top Chef alumni took home James Beard Foundation's 2019 Restaurant and Chef Awards.
The James Beard Foundation has just announced the winners for its 2019 Restaurant and Chef Awards. And of the 15 (!) talented chefs associated with Bravo's Top Chef who made the semifinalists list — all but one of whom appeared on Season 9 or later — who among them ultimately took home awards?
Now we know: Kwame Onwuachi (Season 13) scooped up the Rising Star Chef honor. And Beverly Kim (Season 9) picked up the prize for Best Chef Great Lakes, along with Johnny Clark for Parachute in Chicago.
In an earlier announcement, Season 15's Fan Favorite winner Fatima Ali received the James Beard Foundation Journalism Award posthumously in the category of short form personal essay for her moving essay for Bon Appétit, published on the website on the day she passed away to honor her memory. Chef Fati sadly lost her battle with cancer on January 25 at age 29.
