Go Inside Sanya Richards-Ross’ Lavish $100K Birthday Party for Aaron Ross
The RHOA cast member threw her husband an over-the-top Harlem Nights–themed bash, and naturally, her castmates had some thoughts.
Although Sanya Richards-Ross’ party-hosting skills have been called into question by her The Real Housewives of Atlanta castmates in the past, when it came time to make a plan for Aaron Ross’ 40th birthday, she went all out to throw a jaw-dropping celebration for her husband.
“Ross is such a great husband. Whatever it takes to make him happy, I’ll do it,” Sanya (who lovingly refers to her husband by his last name) explained on Season 15, Episode 1 of RHOA. “He loves Black history, he loves to gamble, and so Harlem Nights was the perfect theme for this bash.”
As RHOA viewers may remember, when Sanya hosted her castmates at her house for the first time during Season 14, they were critical of everything from her food spread to her party decor. Although Sanya later “set the record straight” by explaining that the gathering wasn’t meant to be a formal party, she admitted on the Season 15 premiere, “I still kind of feel a little bit of pressure to show the girls how I really get down.”
For Sanya, that meant sparing no expense. “Originally I had set a $40,000 budget for Ross’ 40th birthday, I thought that would suffice,” she explained. “After casino tables, dancers, DJ, all the things, I’m sitting at about 100 grand. Whatever it takes.” As the episode showed, the event also included an illuminated entrance, a cigar bar, custom signage, elegant florals, beautiful cocktails, and more.
“It feels like my wedding day,” Sanya said. “I’m not lying.”
Sanya explained that although the original venue for the party canceled on her “last minute,” she was able to quickly find a new location and pull off a successful bash. When Sanya’s castmates arrived, they were very impressed with the event. “She put a lot of money into this one,” Kandi Burruss said in an interview. “You’re still not on the Kandi Burruss party level, but you doing good. You doing good.”
