Nearly four years after he last appeared on Below Deck Mediterranean, João Franco is officially back in the Below Deck universe.
This time around, João is helping the Northern Sun crew on Below Deck Down Under. João joined Captain Jason Chambers and the rest of the yachties on Season 2 Episode 8, and he revealed what he’s been up to since fans last caught up with him on Season 4 of Below Deck Mediterranean.
João Franco’s Life Since Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4
João Franco’s Role as a Captain
In an interview on the episode, João shared a career update, and he explained why he decided to take on the bosun position alongside Captain Jason.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Captain Jason. He has a lot of experience; it’s very intimidating,” he said. “I’ve so far been a captain for three and a half years on 30-meter boats, but I’m looking to get more experience from a bigger captain on a bigger boat because I have the ambition to get to the top.”
João Franco’s Girlfriend
Though João was single when he joined the crew, he is currently in a relationship with Domi Tiesi. Like João, Domi is a yachtie, and the two currently work together on another vessel.
João and Domi celebrated their first anniversary on June 12. She commemorated the occasion on her Instagram feed.
“[One] YEAR. I fell for you so quick and so strong, there was no turning back even after the first week and I feel the same way now. I never thought a year can pass by so quickly. If you love every moment of it, it just flies by,” Domi captioned her anniversary post. “We have traveled to over 20 countries, lived in [two] and are now exploring the seas together working side by side. I love you and our adventures and can’t wait for all the years to come.”
Captain Jason Chambers’ Reaction to João Franco’s Arrival
During an exclusive chat with The Daily Dish, Captain Jason opened up about why João was an asset to the deck team, which also includes Adam Kodra, Harry Van Vliet, and Culver Bradbury.
“When he turned up, he had my support, I had his support, and that was very, very essential,” Captain Jason said. “He starts getting the team into shape, which is what it needed.”
