Top Chef Season 5 contestant Leah Cohen is expecting her first child with husband Ben Byruch.
The Bravo's Top Chef family is about to get a little bigger!
Top Chef alum Leah Cohen is expecting her first child with husband Ben Byruch, her rep confirmed to PEOPLE. “Ben and I are so excited to announce that we’re growing our family this October,” Leah said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We’ve wanted this for a while now and we’re so grateful that we get to be parents.“
Leah competed in Season 5 of Top Chef, which took place in New York City. She placed sixth in the competition.
These days, Leah and her husband, whom she wed on July 18, 2016, own the restaurants Pig & Khao in New York City (which you can go inside in Beats + Bites with The Potash Twins, above) and Piggyback Bar in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she serves as head chef. “This will definitely be our hardest but most rewarding project yet,” Leah said of parenthood to PEOPLE.
Leah may have competed on Top Chef 11 seasons ago, but her time in the culinary competition definitely left an impression on host Padma Lakshmi, who said she was the one cheftestant she thought was eliminated way too soon during an interview with The Feast in December 2018. "I think she just had a bad day — and I think she’s a very talented chef," Padma said. "And you know, I think people can be talented, but the confines of the show do not play to everyone’s strengths."
Leah isn't the only one expecting in the Top Chef family. Season 16 runner-up Sara Bradley is also set to welcome her first child with husband Austin Martin this May.
