Kristen Doute Weighs In on James Kennedy's DJ Skills: "He's Not the Next Martin Garrix"

James Kennedy is many things: SURver, rabble-rouser, and, of course, up-and-coming DJ/music producer. And considering he's hard at work on new tracks, including some he's recorded with Vanderpump Rules hostess Lala Kent, we wanted to know what his ex-girlfriend, Kristen Doute, thinks about his skills.

"I do think that James is a good producer and that is the only credit that I am going to give him," Kristen told The Daily Dish. "As far as a DJ is concerned, if what he does at SUR is now considered DJing — like I think Jax said it best, when he's like running around SUR and PUMP with his headphones detached from the laptop and taking seflies with drunk girls — if that's considered DJing, I mean he's not the next Martin Garrix. And the way he's acting, no one's ever going to take him seriously."

Kristen explained she previously warned James about the dangers of mixing partying with work. "I tried to tell him this over and over," she said. "And I've even, on a couple of the episodes, [said] 'You're on this self-destructive path and you're ruining these chances.' I think he has more opportunity, really, than most of us because of his age and he's already ruined it."

While James' dad is a veteran of the music industry, he's been receiving some career assistance from someone else of late: Lisa Vanderpump's hubby, Ken Todd, who has been managing him.

"I just feel like his bad decisions and poor choices... it's almost like Lisa is just handing him this trophy," Kristen said. "I mean, she hasn't necessarily said that she's proud of the way he's acting, but she also hasn't reprimanded him for bad behavior. He just wants to be Jax so badly, and he's not Jax.
