Go Inside Amrit Kapai and Nicholas Kouchoukos’ Wedding (PICS)
Family Karma’s Season 3 finale was a special one for Amrit and Nicholas. Get all the details on their wedding.
Season 3 of Family Karma went out on a high note, and it’s all thanks to Amrit Kapai and Nicholas Kouchoukos’ wedding.
The couple tied the knot in a lavish multiday wedding held in Alpharetta, Georgia. Bali Chainani, Anisha Ramakrishna, Vishal Parvani, Monica Vaswani, Brian Benni, and more familiar Family Karma faces were in attendance, and it’s safe to say that nearly every one of them shed a tear at one point — especially when it came time for the couple to exchange vows.
The grooms got emotional themselves. Nicholas was up first, and he took everyone back to the very first night he met Amrit. “I saw you come through the door and you had my heart. It’s been a long journey. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs,” he said. “I’m a big Mariah Carey fan. She has a song called ‘Butterfly’ where she talks about love, and love is like a butterfly. You can’t hold it in your hands, you have to let a butterfly fly. I remember when our paths, they separated, there was something in me that knew that it was only temporary.”
“And here we are today,” a teary-eyed Nicholas continued. “You are my home. You are my person. I promise that I will take care of you, I promise that we will take care of our parents, I love you.”
Amrit also reflected on the early stages of their relationship in his vows. “I often tell people Chicago saved me, but it wasn’t Chicago, it was meeting you in Chicago,” he explained. “You saved me from so much darkness. People ask me how I keep it all together — there’s a lot going on in my life — and I’m able to keep it together because of you, because you keep my world together. And I promise to spend the rest of my life filling your life with love and light. I love you.”
Amrit went on to express a similar sentiment during an emotional confessional, telling the Family Karma cameras, “Before I met Nicholas, I was at a point in my life where I thought there probably wasn’t a life worth living. And it was because I was so scared that being gay would mean that I couldn’t have a long normal life. Then I met him and he kind of just took me under his wing and he showed me how beautiful it could be to be confident with who I am. Nicholas saved me.”
As the wedding festivities continued, Amrit took a moment to acknowledge the specific struggles he and Nicholas have faced as a gay couple, as well as those they’ll have to face in the future.
“Getting married was a dream that I had buried a long time ago when I was struggling with my sexuality. I didn’t think it would happen for me,” he said in a confessional. “Everyone thinks it’s easy being gay, [that] once you come out, it’s all rainbows and butterflies, and it’s not. It is a constant struggle. It doesn’t end when you come out. It continues for the rest of your life, because everything you need to do and everything you want to do is gonna be an uphill battle, whether it’s having kids or having your kids in school. We don’t live in a society where it’s very accepting. In fact, there are a lot of people that still hate us and that want us to disappear forever. We as gay men want the simple validation and recognition that everyone else gets, but we have to fight for it.”
Thankfully, as Amrit pointed out, he and Nicholas aren’t alone — they have the support of all of their friends and family.
