Emily Simpson and Shane Simpson's relationship has certainly developed in a good way since they joined The Real Housewives of Orange County in Season 13. While we've certainly seen them deal with their trials and tribulations over the years, the pair — especially Shane — have seemingly come into their own.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Orange County on Thursdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

"I think Shane has changed over the seasons," Emily shared during a July 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "Now that we've gotten to the point where he realizes that we navigate [the show] well, and our kids are happy and healthy, I feel like he's just lightened up and he's just himself."

Does this new outlook have something to do with Shane finally passing the California bar exam? Maybe! But keep reading to learn all about the one and only Shane Simpson.

Emily and Shane Simpson's Marriage

Emily revealed during the Season 13 premiere that Shane proposed to her over Google Chat while he was her boss — and that an engagement ring wasn't originally part of the deal.

“Prior to getting married, Shane and I did not date. At all," she shared. "We had worked together for about three years at the same real estate consulting firm, and we had always been friends. He was funny, witty, and always made me laugh."

"After he and his first wife divorced, we began chatting on Google Chat and one day he just said, ‘Want to get married?'” she added. "I was 32 at the time, ready to settle down and have kids and thought, 'What the heck!' I really just took a huge leap of faith."

They tied the knot just a few weeks at the Bellagio in Vegas on Valentine's Day in 2009.

While they've had their ups and downs — Season 14 showcased the mounting pressure in their relationship as Emily underwent hip surgery and Shane studied for the bar — the duo are currently thriving.

Emily and Shane Simpson’s Sex Life

Now more than 14 years into their marriage, the couple know how to keep things spicy. During Season 17, Emily revealed that she and Shane like to film themselves in the bedroom.

“I make lots of movies. I hope nobody ever gets an accidental group text,” the OC mom said with a laugh during Episode 8.

“You’ve done a sex tape?!” fellow cast member Heather Dubrow asked.

“Oh my gosh. [Shane] is very freaky, so maybe. Then I’ll, like, see it later, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god… My ass looks huge. Like, delete that,'" responded Emily.

That's not a problem, though: She also revealed in that episode that Shane loves her butt.

“Shane is a butt man, yes. I mean, he likes everything, but he likes to zero in on the butt," she explained in a confessional. "He smacks it, he grabs it, he takes photos of it. It’s a lot of action down there.”

Emily and Shane Simpson's Kids

Emily and Shane share three children: daughter Annabelle (whose budding modeling career is featured on Season 17 of RHOC) and twin sons Luke and Keller. Shane also has two older daughters, Shelby and Chanel, from his first marriage.

In June 2023, Emily shared an Instagram post honoring Shane for Father's Day, calling him the most "interesting man in the world."

"Thank you for always putting me and your children first and for your unwavering honesty, support and honor," she wrote. "And for always teetering on that thin line between funny, witty humor and offensive commentary."

Shane Simpson's Career

After receiving his Bachelors degree in criminal justice, Shane graduated from Whittier Law School with a Doctor of Law degree in 2003. Since 2019, Shane has worked as an attorney at Benjumea & Associates in Orange County, specializing in workers compensation.

While Shane has long been a licensed lawyer in Utah, his multiple attempts to pass the California bar exam became a conversation topic at many RHOC dinner parties. Still, he persisted and news that he passed the California bar was announced in the November 2021 Season 16 press release.

"Thank you for following this journey for nearly four years," Emily (who passed the California bar in 2005) wrote in a March 2022 Instagram post. "It definitely took a toll on our marriage, but I’m proud that we persevered. The lesson one can take from this is to never give up on your dreams! Failures are hard and hurtful, but remember to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and try again! Success is never easy!"

According to his LinkedIn profile, Shane has previously worked as a claims investigator, real estate consultant, and investigations manager.

Shane Simpson's Religion

Shane is a practicing Mormon. In November 2020, he answered some questions about his faith in an Instagram Q&A, sharing that he attends religious services and that his oldest daughter, Shelby, is Mormon as well.

"No, I've never had an adult beverage," the attorney joked, in an acknowledgement of his faith practices. "Because I'm not much of an adult, I like juice boxes."

Season 16 of RHOC saw Shane and Emily's youngest daughter, Annabelle, go through her own Mormon baptism.

"She goes to church with Shane, and she came home and she told me that, ‘I’m 8 now, I would like to get baptized,’" Emily revealed during a March 2022 The Real Housewives of Orange County After Show appearance"I had a lot of questions, too, because I'm not a member of the church and I'm not religious. There were a lot of conversations between Shane and me where I had to ask things and clarify things. He does a really good job of explaining."

Since the Simpsons joined the Housewives cast in 2018 (though Emily was also a guest during Season 10 in 2015), their fellow cast members have had plenty to say about both the couple's relationship and Shane in general.

Emily's close friend and fellow 'Wife, Gina Kirschenheiter, was the first person to face off with Shane when they both joined the show in Season 13. Fans might recall Shane asking Gina to leave his house during an Episode 5 poker party, stating that she was "annoyingly loud."

Nevertheless, Gina later came to Shane's defense when other cast members were giving him heat.

"Shane actually is a nice guy," she told The Daily Dish in October 2018. "He grows on you. Everybody should give Shane a chance because he does grow on you and he has a lot of layers. He's like Shrek, you know? He takes a while. He's an onion. You've got to peel him back."
